As a long time british punk rocker, I know how I 'should' feel about the royals, but I just can't!!
I've got such a fondness for great british eccentricity that they're a huge part of.
Saluting and singing to the queen before pouring a large pimms with fruit thrown in it, and settling down to watch a 5 day cricket match with a knotted Union Jack on your head!
Haha! Not that I've ever done that,but I do love tradition, and without the palaces, horses and carriages, crazy pompous Royal or government ceremonies, it would surely be lost for good?
Besides, keeping the royals could well be an investment ( as mentioned above, the money from Royal related tourism surely outweighs the cost?), and I'd rather it be spent on them, than it being handed out in benefits.
( oh, check this out! I don't know anyone hear and I'm dying to tell someone!! One of my clients works for the Royal guard in Windsor. He told me that, you know those guys who killed the soldier lee rigby last year? They were gonna hang them! Seriously! It's never been made illegal, it just became unpopular, but if the queen gives the word it can happen. And old Queenie was totally up for it! Apparently it was stopped just hours before being made public by pressure from the European lot! Dunno how I feel about it, but I'm kinda impressed that they had the balls to even consider it!).
