I am looking for a good tool bag for carrying tools in my glovebox. I have been using some bags I found a the hardware a few years ago. They are getting worn out, and I am looking to replace them. Suggestions are welcome.

Attached are photos of what I carry in the leg shield glovebox. The second is all the stuff I carry in the glovebox. The first shows the tools for one bag on the left, and the misc items from the other bag on the right.

The two bottles are camp stove fuel bottles with an inner tube pulled over them. The inner tubes reduce the amount of rattle. The small one is 2 stroke oil, the larger is extra gas/oil. The bag of rope is a 25 ft section that is used as a tow line. One plastic bag has a cdi, the other plastic bag has cables.

Damn! you carry more crap than I do! Razz emoticon

Seriously though, that's good.. it looms like you're pretty well prepared.. CDI and all!

You have a side glovebox too?

I've seen some people do some nifty storage bags that velcro to the under side of their seat if you need more space..

You probably have a couple pinch bolts with your cables? if not, not a bad idea to have at least one if not a couple...

How about spare light bulbs? fuses?

I always keep 5 M8 washers and Nyloc nuts for the halibut.

Do you carry a spare tire? or plan on using the innertube? (in addition to stopping the rattle) I ask becuase I don't see a pump.

I think I caryy too many tools but I know if I don't I'll need it/them.

I think you look very prepared.. well done.

I use pencil cases. The one I have at the moment is neoprene and perfect for the stuff I carry as it doesn't tear easily. Quite cheap to replace as well. I use baby bottles for 2 stroke which avoids the need for a measuring cup... they are marked in 25ml increments.

I carry all that plus a bottle or 2 of water, waterproof matches, small container of sae30 oil and insect repellent. (Never know when you may have to spend the night outdoors by your scooter). the Leatherman Crunch has come in handy. Small canvass tool bags from Home depot contain it all. What doesn't fit in the glove box goes in the top case.

Consider adding mini vise-grip pliers. They are very small and an effective substitute for a 2nd hand tool for holding a replacement clutch cable in place while you tighten the clamp.

Also to make wheel changes easier, remove each nut one at a time and replace after applying a smear of anti-seize on the bolt threads. Anti-Seize will not encourage a torqued nut to back out, but does prevent it from galling or rusting on.

Re: Suggestions for tool bag
This is how I roll for daily riding:

Tools
Plug wrench
10mm wrench (rear brake cable adjustment)
8mm wrench (clutch and front brake adjustment, nut on bottom of levers)
7mm wrench (getting pinch bolts on/off)
Multitool (driver with multiple bits: phillips head, standard, etc)
Small vice grips
Small LED flash light
A red shop rag

Parts
Spare plug
A couple spare clutch cables
A small ziplock baggie with a couple pinch bolts
Spare batteries for flashlight
Couple spare 8A fuses
Old 35mm film canister full of quarters (for parking meters, if you're a city driver.)

I put all the tools in a cheap tool bag roll I got from Sears then use a couple bungee cords to wrap around the roll. The spare parts I keep in a tupperware container. All of this is shoved into the glove box. Doesn't really take up that much space either.

I use a lot of neodymium magnets for my tools. Two to hold my pencil case up and out of the way in the glove box, two to hold my emergency stand in place under the rack and ahead of the brake light and one on the inside of the battery-side cowl on my p125x. There is a strip of metal inside the emergency oil bottle and the magnet attracts that. Haven't had anything bounced off yet.

I use an old army gas mask bag similar to this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/310756205372?lpid=82 It's kind of cool since it can also be attached comfortably to your leg, or hanging off the headset, if for some reason your glove box is full, or non-existent. Not really water proof, but carries a good amount of stuff and is made out of thick material, I've had mine since i was in high school and it still looks good.

Harbor Freight has a tool roll bag that holds a lot of stuff and fits in the left glove box with room to spare. It's only $9.

Tow Rope
I have used the tow rope a few times. It's good to have when we are stuck out in the middle of no where, or trying to get home in the city.

I've used a Buddy Tow for years when riding and racing dirt bikes. You can loop the strap through the loop on one end and wrap the other end around the bars so if thing get out of control you let go of the wrap and the other bike goes on instead of pulling you through the mud. I'm sure these would work great for scooters. They come in a nylon pouch with a velcro closure and are very compact and strong. I should start carrying one of these on my scoots.

No doubt, things were getting all warm and fuzzy talking about tools, bags and ropes, so I thought I would see if I could find and attach a link that would cause a stir.

When towing...

I place the rope below the headset. I have been towed this way and the rope did not get in the way of the headset.

The scooter that is pulling has the rope attached to the seat pin, or a solid rear rack.

This has worked well. I have only done this with people who were good riders that I trusted. The only issue was once when were pulling off a four lane road. We hit the exit going to fast and the rear scooter slide out the way a skier does behind a motorboat. He kept it together. I got better at turns real fast.

I made a roll out of some pliable leather with slots and pockets for things. ON a small frame there isn't much room.

But along with the parts, I'll be coiling up a couple shifting/clutch cables run around the inside of my seat.
