Does anyone know what the measurements on the bar end screws for the 500 are.

I would have thought the screws for my 400 would have worked but they only go in so far and stick. I tried cleaning the screws and that didn't work.

If they are the same screw then Ill order some from AF1 along with some other items I want/need.

I usually get my extra screws from ACE Hardware. But I have to take a screw off my 500 with me to show them what I need.

Screw M6X45 T.S.E.I part number 576836 and it is same screw used on the 500, 400 and 250.

I needed a longer screw for the throttle side when I installed new grips and was able to source one at ACE. Though it is a Philips head and not a hex.

I go to Ace every time a specialty bolt it machine screw is needed. Like when I built a bar extender to accept my bar end mirrors. Here's a pic, of course.

BTW, it sounds like you already have the right parts. Could your female threads be boogered up?

Yeah its possible the female threads are boogered. Ill see if I can clean them.

Sigh

I had one screw get so stuck I had to cut the head off, and twist out with vice grips. I know I shouldn't have tightened it that much.

Ill see what ACE can do. Does anyone have John Maddens telephone number, he'll know what to do. LOL!

Better buy a tap and chase the threads before putting another screw into it.

Good idea? However, does anyone know what size tap or thread chaser I might need to do the job?

Sticky says M6 above in the thread, but I am not sure of the pitch. I assume its M6x1...?

Sure. I'll see what I can do for that.

But, until then look under the Project Reports section, (currently on page two) is the following thread.

show us your mirror mods

My part about this is at the bottom of Page 2 and the start of Page 3 of the thread,

I took a couple minutes to make a video regarding the bar end mirrors. As you can tell, I'm no professional spokesperson, and it isn't easy to manipulate the mirror and cell phone camera at the same time. Here you goes, brothers and sisters of scootology.

Jeesh. Ok. Only because I love you guys.... (I thought I had covered the SKWOOSH gel seat pad ad nauseum --- so I've let it drop) Ahem...

I've had two SKWOOSH gel seat pads, with now over 20,000 miles of use. They both are just as effective as when they were new. The one in the video is the one I bought for the passenger seat, but I adopted it to the front because my original one was getting sun faded.

Thanks everyone for the compliments on the video and mirrors, and to LouLou, Oui Oui, forward my video to wherever you like. It would be fun to hear you translate my words into Francais. Bonjour!

I just wrote down in English of what you said and fed it into Google translate
and hoped for the best, my French is a minimal work in progress at this point.
I have wanted such mirrors myself but wondered if the rear vision would be compromised? Can you see really well out of them?

Hi Rob

The mirrors give a good field of view, although the have a slightly smaller surface area than the stock mirrors do. It took me almost no time to adjust to them. My line of vision goes over my forearm, and gives a good view of everything past one half car length back. This leaves a very small blind spot on each side. Head checks are still necessary on lane changes.

A side note, with these being about 4 to 5 inches lower than stock, are less likely to connect with truck and SUV mirrors. The stock ones were almost exactly the same height as theirs, and made lane splitting more "interesting."

The mirrors come two to an order. Side note : with a wider pipe spacer that leaves a gap on the throttle side, a slightly longer m6 x 1.0 bolt may be necessary. There isn't much thread left after adding the pipe spacer.

Go to amazon.com, search BikeMaster Oval Mirror.

Cool!
And the Skwoosh has a tailbone relief area?
My dream come true!
I severely broke my tailbone a few years ago, and during some rides, it hurts so much that I actually get sick to my stomach.
It is just an awful, awful nauseating pain....

I was actually thinking about hollowing out my seat or something right where my tailbone sits to try and get some relief.
Maybe this will do the trick!

I tried an airhawk, but my tailbone was still making contact with the cushion, so it didnt really help.

Yes. it appears that most of their seatpads have a small relief area there. Both of the ones I have do. The gel pads smash down to about 1/2", so it's not like a major hole is created. I find that sliding the seatpad a bit forward so it's under the glutes and high thighs, then putting the back of my buttcheeks against the rise in the seat leaves my tailbone a good spot to be in.

Happy to help. A gentleman should always be looking out for a lady's rear end.

So I went to Ace Hardware yesterday looking for pipe to make spacers with for the bar end mirrors I got the other day.

I asked an employee if he had a 7/8 OD pipe ID not important Thickness not important. He found me a pipe. I asked how much to have two 1/2 inch pieces cut. He asked his boss how much for the pipe and told me $4.28 for the whole pipe. By whole pipe I mean all 12-gazillion feet of it. I told the nice man, all I needed was two 1/2 in pieces I don't need the whole pipe. He cut me the two pieces I needed.

He then had to ask his boss how much to charge me for two 1/2 in wide pieces. I told the nice man charge me the $4.28 you were going to charge me for the whole 12 - gazillion feet of pipe. He said he couldn't do that. I told the nice man, sure you can, they wanted $2.39 for two 1/2 pieces plus $15.00 shipping if I ordered off the internet. So he charged me $4.28 and I told him to keep the pipe so he can sell it to someone else.

He had to use a manual pipe cutter and got a work out. I felt bad about him having to exert himself at closing time. He saved me from having to cut the stupid pipe. I would have paid $10.00 for those two pieces of pipe.
