Hi all

I promised an old local vespa owner to help him with his Sprint 1965.

He told me that he was scared of riding it when i was cold. When he puts in 1. gear the front wheel kisses the skies, 2-4 is pretty ok. When it gets hot the problem nearly goes away. It does not slips out of any of the gears. He have turned the idle a little bit High because he is scared that it will die when he is holding still in the traffic.

I found out that the engine only had 2/3 Oil (or less) and the clutch wire was a little loose. I drained it for Oil and tighthen the clutch cable, it helped a bit.

I am thinking of changing the plates and springs in the clutch and give a new teflon clutch cable (cable is very old). If that does not do the trick i am thinking of changing the cruciform and proberly renew the gear selector box (original and looks like never changed).

What do you guys think of this?

Any Ideas ?

Cheers

Was hoping for a external solution and not splitting the engine. But you are proberly right about the cruciform, if new clutch plates etc. and cable dont do the trick. But Think it is still a good idea to change the plates (low Oil )

Thanks for answer

Don't worry about the cruciform then.

Hi Ginch

Thanks, 5 hours saved

No reason to split engine then.

Hope that new clutchplates, springs, copperbush etc and a new cable will make it work.

Cheers
Kasper

Ill post a picture when i take the clutch apart. And a picture of the gear selector, looks so damn old.

As stated earlier, the problem nearly goes away when engine is hot.
