Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has any tricks for fueling up without overflow?

Mine is an S150 and seems to have a knack for making me too cautious and getting on a 3/4 filled tank or overflowing because I think I can put just a drop more.

Tips on knowing where you are at in there?

Handle of nozzle over the pet carrier, I tend to remove mine in case of accidents. If it has a rubber cuff I tend to not push it all the way in and I always grab paper towel to hold in my other hand in case of any accidental overflow. Never try to add a bit more. When the auto shut off occurs you are done. Hope that is clear enough.

You should also be aware that the fuel gauge is not entirely accurate. At times I fill up and it only reads 3/4 full other times it reads full. Kind of maddening really

Drat you beat me! I was busy searching.

This is the direct link to the wiki: FAQ: How can I avoid overflowing the gas tank?

It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. You definitely don't want to spill on the plastic taillight lens...

Thanks for the quick replies.

I do the same thing wrapping some paper around the edges to help with potential spill and yes the gauge is way way off.

I'll be careful and forget the urge to top off.

There's nothing that could hurt my enthusiasm for riding that's for sure. Best thing I ever got for myself even with it's little quirks.

Cheers!

I find this way effective , pet carrier out on the ground, swing the handle over the opening and pull the rubber sleeve back and pump. The trick here is a small flashlight in your teeth aimed down the hole to see the level rising.
You can see it getting close and slow the flow to get a full tank .

Fill the tank slowly. It only takes about two gallons, Have a little patience., and use the gas tank filler cap to lift the rear of the pet carrier when filling to preclude spilling any overflow into the pet carrier.

If you are worried about running out carry a MSR Bottle for spare fuel for peace of mind. 20 and 30 oz at sporting good stores and amazon. Pictured is a 30oz bottle. I do just for longer rides in the mountains but not tooling around town.

This may be a dumb question, but do you store that MSR bottle in the pet carrier? No worries about sitting on top of more combustibles?
