Oh, I forgot to post this the other day.

While on the Highway a few days back the gantry up ahead showed that a couple of lanes were closed.

As I got closer I saw a pick up truck facing backwards that at some point been on it's roof, a trailer that wasn't as flat as it should be and a cream and red vintage McCormick tractor laying in the road in two pieces which was decorated with a few ratchet straps.

I think that it was pretty obvious what had happened.

Someone didn't make it to the Show.

Ugh. That is heart wrenching.

It had "snapped" where the axle joined the block.

Not a pretty sight.

Bad things happen to good people.

I remember, and this has been years ago, talking with some Corvette guys at a show. A lot of guys were trailering their cars to the shows and picking up the late '70s and '80s Corvettes dirt cheap because nobody wanted them just to have a Corvette to drive. One accident driving a '57 and there's no replacing it.

Probably wouldn't have been the solution in this case, though.

Today I saw a rabbit being transported around in a push chair.

When I was in college as a music student, we were required to attend student concerts every Wednesday at noon. This was in an auditorium that had, maybe, 200 seats. One time I arrived late for a dual harpsichord performance and while I was waiting in the lobby for a break in the music in walked a girl...with a rabbit...on a leash.

What are the odds of these things happening together ever again?

At another of these concerts, someone came on stage and announced that three faculty members had decided that they wanted to perform some chamber music for us. They then closed the doors, which never happened.

So out walks John Crown - he played the piano in more than 50 Hollywood movies and was the disembodied hand in "The Beast With Five Fingers". He was also Michael Tilson Thomas's piano teacher.

Then comes Gregor Piatigorsky - along with Pablo Casals the preeminent cellist of his time.

Finally, Jascha Heifetz, perhaps the greatest violinist of all time.

Just three old friends playing music together.

A memorable event to be sure.

(For those of you who aren't familiar with these musicians, it was the equivalent of going to see a local band at a small club and having the Beatles come out.)

Couple of years ago I was driving across South Dakota and spotted an old kitchen stove with its oven door hanging open, sitting out by itself on the prairie. There was a sign next to it that said "Open Range."

Today, I had to drive about 90 miles from Rapid City to Newcastle, Wyoming so that I could substitute for a Black Thunder mine bus driver until Tuesday morning. About five miles from the Wyoming border on westbound hwy 16, I spotted this near the highway in a pasture.

What ARE the odds?

A bonus 'Weird Shit I Saw Today' item is this twenty-foot derelict 'Dino' on the western side of Custer, South Dakota on highway 16.

It's the last vestige remaining of The Flintstone's Theme Park that was at this location for fifty years.

Absolutely nothing remains of the theme park except this cartoon character statue.

Part of the original Custer, SD Flintstone's Bedrock City theme park in it's heyday, and 'Dino' in much, much, better times.
