The Brits simply refuse to learn any foreign languages and so will resort to crashing around while speaking louder in English while remaining totally unaware of the chaos left in our wake.

Spain conquered more territory in 50 years than the Romans did in 500. And while those territories no longer belong to Spain, the language is still spoken at most of them.

As Bill Dog noted, the Brits took over much of the world with the height of the empiire in 1923.
There seems to be a measure of bashing of the Brits (Western World) for their colonialism. Despite economicly drawing resources out of these colonies, they also developed infrastructure, civic govenmental organization, education and trade with stability. I support independence, but there were significant contributions to these colonies made by the Brits and others. But of course, the flavor of the day is bashing. You must display guilt to fit in with the current revisionist history popularity. Bob Copeland

Unfortunately, I am unable to display, let alone feel, guilt for anything that was done by people that are not ME.
An astute person once said that we have reached the pitiable state of absurdity in that some are trying to hold people morally responsible for things that were done during a time in history in which they did not exist, while simultaneously not holding people morally responsible for things that they are actually doing. ![]()

Exactly my sentiments too, I feel no more remorse for the British Empires territory grabbing than a 21st century citizen of Holland, Belgium, Portugal, France or Spain would for their countries doing the same thing. On the flip side I don't get the "being proud of your country" ethos either unless you have made a definable contribution into making your country a better place. I mean what's the point of being proud of your town, county, state just because you was fortunate enough to be born there?

Coddy,
I am a bit lost on your line of thinking - although I respect it. For example, after measuring up previous historical forms of governess, our founding fathers put together a governing entity with checks and balances to avoid a tyranny of the majority. The Senate is a check on the House of Representatives, the Executive "President" is a check on the other two and the Supreme court is a check on all three. Hey, not a flawless system (Plenty of abuses), but, it facilitated the economic growth and stability that benefited much of the population. Great experiment in governing. I am proud of these people and the nation and I had nothing to do with creating it. My contribution, I served in the military, worked hard and supported a family and give to charities. Bob Copeland

Jess would correctly conclude that we are bordering on different political persuations. Brexiit was simply a sovereignty issue not wanting Brussels to make calls on what goes on in the UK.

The idea is to fling yourself about in wild abandon and embrace something joyous and fun by re-enacting the iconic Kate Bush, Wuthering Heights music video from 1978 all to raise money for charity.
Bill, did you fling yourself about in wild abandon and embrace something joyous and fun?
