I haven't had a chequebook in the UK since 2002. They were going to be phased out by 2015, but the window cleaners etc objected. Funnily enough my window cleaner went to direct debit in 2005 anyway.

They are still very much in evidence in the US, where it's still not possible to have almost instantaneous bank transfers (it takes at least until the next day) except via third parties (Venmo etc).

I don't miss checks too much, but I do miss cash. Seems like half the businesses in my neighborhood don't even take cash anymore, restaurants and coffee places and the like.

Cash is still king when it comes to buying a nice pre-owned scoot.

I use Zelle -- from my phone through my bank app -- for such transfers. Easy, free and yes, instantaneous too.

And definitely for selling one that belongs to someone else.

Weird - Irvine, California is buying a Cybertruck for $153,000+ for "community outreach". Whatever that is. Taxpayers aren't too pleased with the expenditure. Reported by CNN.

Joking apart my Bank regularly runs promotions for Charities and this week it was generating funds for Lupus. However, it was quite funny being served by a brightly coloured children's TV character.

These were also the guys who let slip that the interest rate was going to drop in a day or so they suggested that I moved the day I was going to invest a shit load of money ahead a little.

2 days later it dropped.

Not really. Zelle ist not considered a third party service. It won't hold your funds and is a no fee peer to peer, bank to bank, network for domestic transfers. Try it, you'll see.

Today's weird shit: Bill Dig got kicked from MV

Bill Dog is on a timeout. He is not permanently banned. I guess I'm not really surprised that the message was conveyed without the appropriate nuance, but here we are.

Bill Dog has in the past been permanently banned. I am a big believer in second chances, though, if someone will actually make an effort to be a better person. So against the better judgement of my moderators (who were unanimous that Bill Dog should remain banned forever) I allowed him to come back, on the condition that he was to be a model citizen.

Lately, Bill Dog has not been upholding that commitment. Thus, the timeout. If he continues to misbehave after the timeout, I will uphold my commitment by permanently banning him.

There will not be any third chances.

Meaning no disrespect: Bill does come up with some musings and points I would never have thought about on various subjects. Some times, thought provoking, but sometimes, quite entertaining and stimulating. Moderation is not always obvious. Sometimes it's a train wreck, but often it's just a series of little things that add up over time. That said, there is usually a triggering event -- it's just you need context to really understand it.
