Google actually fixed two bugs I reported in their Android Photos app. Knock me down with a feather
First I reported 18 months ago. (hiding photo variations when using long exposure and then moving the photo out of the camera folder, but works if you move the photo back) Second I reported 6 months ago. (showing only the first 4 letters of the filename - seriously dumb) But fuck, they actually did!!! So yes this belongs in the Weird thread. Now if only they'd fix the one where the timestamp gets fucked when if using the camera from the lock state and then editing rather than doing it from unlocked state.

Food delivery scooter doing 70 kph on a 100 kph freeway - the cars were doing 100.
No escape. So did their GPS not know the limit of their scoot and send them there? Did they not read the sign as they entered the freeway? The fluro jacket is a requirement for a learners permit. (Of course they could have one anyway).

Accident waiting to happen.
BTW, I wear a high-vis jacket. I actually get more courtesy than when I'm in my car. Maybe it's just the scooter image(?). |

And my knees are still less than about 20" from the front bumper. A few weeks later, I was walking back to the van and watched a Lincoln Mark VII swing into it while coming into the adjacent parking spot a bit too fast. I saw the van rock and I knew they'd hit me, so I started walking faster. The Lincoln backed out quickly; with a smashed headlamp, hood, fender and grill. The driver saw me coming and drove off. They managed to put a 6" scuff on the rear lower rocker and damage the other corner of the rear bumper. I went to a VW breakers two weeks later and bought a replacement bumper for about $40. Find the YouTube video for the Volvo vs Vanagon offset crash, and you'll know why you shouldn't throw down with a Vanagon unless you have a tractor trailer, a tank or large construction equipment.

I had a couple of these, including one with a stakebed lift gate Fitted with a 1000 gallon tank. I added a baffle, otherwise a nearly full tank would make the truck waggle...
The visibility & maneuverability was great, it would go through a drive thru But wow it felt like my feet were over the bumper

I was a little bit curious about it until he drove me up to Marin from SF on it once. That short amount of time on 101 cured me of any desire to get on a proper interstate highway in that thing. The tires seemed way too small for the van. But that's the way they came! |

My first VW bus was a '63 Westphalia camper. I sure wish I still had it. $$$$$$
The next one was a '68 panel truck that I converted to a camper myself - bed, table, icebox, wood paneling, the whole bit. Did the whole thing with an electric drill, a sabre saw, and a screwdriver. There was a girl who, when she saw it, decided that I was the guy who was going to build her the log cabin she had always dreamed of. 55 years later, we're still together.

Ran it straight down I-35 all the way to the Mexican border, imported a load of Mexican pottery and miscellaneous tourist junk all the way back. The van ran fine the entire way, albeit a bit slower than most traffic. 3-speed column shift manual, inline six-cylinder (300ci ? don't recall the engine displacement). The '68 had a 1600 cc engine with 65 horsepower ( though I don't remember it having that much!) I added a two-barrel Holly carburetor and a larger intake manifold to give it a little more oomph. We drove it all over the Western states and Canada and I proposed to my wife in it in a campground in the Canadian Rockies in 1973.
