Almost became the filling for a Maserati and Honda sandwich today when the Honda stopped suddenly to turn into a driveway (no blinker) and the Maserati turned into me (trying to cut me off). I just installed a Stebel horn on Sunday, tried to use it in haste, but ended up flashing my high beams - @&$%#! Guess I need to practice using my new, loud horn! So annoying...thanks for letting me vent.

Yours truly,

Ouch! (Almost). Be careful, it's a jungle out there.

OTOH, being taken out by a Maserati has a bit more panache than, say, a minivan.

Make sure you practice using your new horn WHILE using your brake lever at the same time.

The brake will be more likely to get you out of more jams that involve sudden stops or lane changes than the horn... (Experience speaking, here)

Errr... no.

Hitting the brake means you lose the ability to swerve. Or the closing distance may not have allowed for avoiding getting hit even if at a full stop.

Swerving or braking might have been the right thing to do, but you have to have all of them in your toolbox.

Making sure you are heard helps in all situations, as being heard can led to being seen.

I'm still thinking about a foot switch for the Stebel. I must have been a shifty Vespa rider in a past life, because braking with my right foot always came natural to me, even on the twist'n'go.

Not to take away from the main topic, but I find myself a lot of the times when going through intersections, into parking lots and other places where cars look a little uncertain with their next action with my thumb posed on the horn button just waiting to push it.

Anyone else to this too or am I just paranoid?

I've been known to "cover" the horn button, yes. But, I feel it's a dangerous game to play - you're relying on your horn to stop another car. IMO, the safer bet is to use your brakes to stop you.

I prefer to control my own self. Nerd emoticon
