Hey all,
I picked this little number up today and a quick install later, I now have a monster lock!

Apparently, it's a very new product (I've never seen it before) and they had a size for every modern Vespa.

It is an official Piaggio product.

See pics from my install today.

Seems very sturdy and reliable. Will never forget it at home...

Cheers!

Kevin

Well, that is quite a nifty and convenient lock.

It follows the lines of the Vespa nicely. Have you considered painting the lock to match your Vespa?

We had those on our rentals in Spain last year. Very handy for locking helmet and jacket as well.

Pretty neat but what advantages does it have over just locking the front wheel? Did I miss something?

The front wheel lock can be snapped without too much effort. This just adds another level of difficulty to theft.

Does it come with more than one weight of bar end? My bar ends are heavier than the standard due to having a top box.

Excellent point - not to mention a level of visual deterrent.

Making your scoot even look like a tougher target will cause potential thieves to pass you by. I like that it is purpose built and looks the part. Mind telling folks how much this was?

Bought it yesterday from Sandman Vespa in Shelbyville, IN (ask for Burke) for a low, low price of $150 - which is the part cost from Piaggio. Pricey? Yeah, but it's cheaper than my deductible if stolen.

I guess you could hang a helmet off of it if you want to pop in the shop quickly if you're that way inclined.

Did you have to drill holes to attach it and what's the name of it (Vespa lock?). Looks cool. Thanks for the info.

No holes to drill - just unbolt the seat and it mounts right underneath. As captioned, I ended up using the seat bolts that came with the scooter, NOT the ones included with the lock.

The label on the package says "antifurto sella manubrio GTS/Super/GTV" - which roughly translates to "antitheft seat handlebar". Ref # 605537M010

Is there space between the paint and the mounting plate? I would hate to have it rub a hole and rust.

I agree that paint matching it to your scoot would be the obvious choice for me.

It does NOT touch the frame at all (with the exception of the mounting location). You should be able to remove without any future effects.

There is a LX / S / LXV version - and the good thing, it's cheaper!! Seems to be the exact same design, but for some reason, Piaggio wants to charge more for the GT/GTS/GTV version.

I guess I'm the odd guy here. While I an see it may be a deterrent, it does not keep the scoot attached to anything. The scoot could still be lifted,or dragged away. If you think this is unlikely, many years ago I almost lost my Harley Super Glide to some thieves because I only locked the front wheel to the frame so the front wheel would not roll. It was halfway on a truck when the police arrived.

Well have you considered the fact that finding something to anchor your vehicle to is not always an option? Cables can be cut, scoots can be lifted, alarms may be ignored by passers by. Deterrence is the word that comes to mind. Nothing will make it theft proof.

Certainly if someone really wants your scooter they will get it but if you can put a few obstacles in their face it could discourage some. I think this lock looks interesting but as others have mentioned I also have a top box with a heavier weight on my handgrip. From my search of the internet it does seem as several manufactureres make similar devices and i wonder if any of them have addressed the issue of those with top boxes? I do have an email out to one of them and I will post the reply if I get it.

I do consider this. If I can't lock it to something, I have to be able to see it. Or I don't leave it. I've had too many scoots stolen over the years.

That type locking device has been available for a variety of scooter models in Europe for a few years. It offers a couple of conveniences noted above, in that a modular/FF helmet can be secured, along with a riding jacket. Also, it is self storing.

They were, as wmak noted, on several of the Peugeots we rented in Spain, and the general consensus was positive.

May not be the ultimate in theft protection (just about anything can be defeated by a determined thief), but it still offers features beyond the steering column lock.

What Judy means is that you can't just change the bar end on an LX. I guess you'll have to drill it open.

What is a cheaper option that does not require you having to chain your bike to a fixed object? Is the only other option the Xena alarms?

Does it affect the handling due to the lighter weight at one end of the handlebar? What's the experience of the folks with GTS and top box?

No handling issues at full speed that I've noticed - but I don't have a top box.
