Ok, I'm crazy and bought a used BMW 650 GT. Brought it home about two months ago. Really intended to trade one of my Piaggios in, but on D-day I couldn't part with either one, so now I own three.
It is a 2013 red model and had about 500 miles (titled for 15 months prior to my purchase). I love the bike - absolutely carves the road and so much faster/quicker than either of my other bikes.
Had a little early trouble - the computer controlling the dash went out on me - which I discovered when I ran out of fuel, yet the gauge still read 1/4 tank. Dealer gave me no problem and replaced the part under warranty in about 2 weeks.
Things I love:
1. Speedo agrees to GPS measured speed
2. Auto-cancel turn signals that seem to work pretty well
3. Handling is outstanding for a bike a good bit larger than anything I've ever ridden.
4. Adjustability of windscreen - electric, just roll it up or down (but see below)
5. Air pressure sensors for tires
6. Oil level sensor (but see below)
7. Aftermarket accessories - already at least 4 different wind screens available, plus Corbin has fashioned a saddle.
8. Fast. Really fast!
9. Accessory adaptor in place under a panel on handlebars - easy-peasy to wire a GPS.
10. 3/36k warranty
Things that need work:
1. Windscreen allows too much air on the top third of helmet, even at highest adjustment setting
2. Oil dipstick and fill are behind a panel (though see above re: oil sensor)
3. No remote or button to open the seat
4. Mirrors - I have yet to find an adjustment that shows less than 2/3 of my arm. I can adjust to see behind just ok, but then can't see sides. If adjust to see the sides, no rear vision at all.
5. Shock load adjustment - hard to adjust (especially without the BMW tool, which was not present when I bought the (used) bike).
6. Seat - do ANY scooter seats come in comfort level for large man such as myself?
7. Height - many complain about high seat, but the problem (for me anyway) is not height, but width/girth of the bike.
All in all, the pluses for me (especially 3 and 8 ) well outweigh the negatives.
I think the bike that I need to get rid of is the MP3, but no way I can part with that baby today.
And to my fellow BV350er, I can assure you the BV350 and BMW GT are far different machines. The BV and MP3 are much closer comparisons, but the BMW is in a different (bigger and more powerful) class altogether.
