Put the newly powder coated wheels on last week. Thought we had em cinched down nice and tight, but two of the front bolts and three of the rears worked loose after just a couple of miles. Could've been ugly. Now I don't trust my feel.

Anyone know the actual torque offhand?

Thanks.

beedspeed 14 - 16 ft/lbs. Haynes 14.5 - 19 ft/lbs. I check mine before every ride as I had the same thing happen - scared the hell out of me.

Keep an eye on them, make sure you have new lock washers and bolts/nuts.

Thanks, yes will definitely keep an eye on them. Could've sworn they were torqued to at least 16ft/lbs. Put new bolts and washers all around and Loctite for good measure. If they loosen again we'll get some Nordlocks. Don't need a wheel coming off.

I can't speak from experience but I've heard that can happen with powder coated parts. Maybe others can chime in on whether that's true or BS.

Vader - yup, Nordlocks are the answer to almost everything. Not cheap, but seriously brilliant.

sdjohn - I've heard the same - extra important to mask threaded parts when powder coating.

The Fun Never Ends
Got the wheel nuts all tightened up and figured better check the hub nut.

So I popped the torque wrench on, started wrenching, and boom, the castle nut rolls a thread.

@!@#!#@!#@$#! Wasn't even close to 55 ft/lbs torque either. What's up with that?

At least the axle's ok. If it ain't one thing it's something else.
