Hello all,
Finally got around to sticking some fuel in my Rally tank with my new SIP tap. I just cant get it to stop coming out when turned off. A drip every few seconds Id say. Ive had a look at how they do it and it seems a simple little rotary seal?

Is this a duff unit or have all of them got to be tinkered with? in which case I dont quite know how to alter things.

The original was shot so yes I did need another one:-)

cheers Kevin

I seem to remember others posting of problems with these, like maybe the seal was installed backwards and shearing. You'll need to contact sip

Hmmm I do remember this thread but Id already bought the SIP one. They seem to mention in the other thread getting a different rubber insert? Where from....??
Either way Im contacting SIP. Not impressed....and not like them to keep selling a duff part

I'm sorry to say that I have had the same problem with several SIP fast flow taps. I gave up on them and switched to the BGM faster flow taps suggested by many here. I couldn't be happier with it.

Got a reply from SIP suggesting I need to order...

http://www.sip-scootershop.com/de/products/gummidichtung+sip+benzinhahn+_14486000

for a whole 92cents...plus 5 euros PnP

After reminding them that it was new, faulty, and the amount Id spent with them over the last three years has been astronomical, they decided to send me one free of charge!

It looks as though the holes are 'lipless'. Mine have a tiny rim around. Will let you know all if it works!

I've been rocking the SIP fast flow for over a year now and I finally had to replace that little rubber grommet this spring. I originally got it because I was getting pings at a certain rev range on my port matched 177 kit and thought it was due to fuel starvation. Didn't change a damn thing.

Waste of money if you ask me. Go with the BGM fast flow instead.

OK....update...

9 days to arrive and the little rubber seal came through....popped it in and have exactly the same effin drip...WHAT A WASTE OF TIME

Snotty letter sent to SIP including words like refund and not paying for postage. BGM one ordered. It'll now be 2 weeks without making any progress on the Rally. Very frustrating aaggghhh!

OK so thought you'd like to hear this sorry little tail of scooter restoration!

Bought a SIP tap
SIP tap leaks when turned 'OFF'
Snotty mail sent to SIP
SIP say buy this new rubber insert
I tell them to send me one as its a new tap
SIP send a new rubber insert (9days)
new rubber insert looks like the old rubber insert.
Still leaks.
Snotty mail to SIP asking for refund.
No response. 2nd snotty mail to SIP asking for refund.
I then remember I bought it from up north
SIP let me know in the meantime they'll send me another. Bin the 1st one.
I buy a BGM fuel tap from somewhere else up north.
That arrives in 2 days. Excellent
On fitting it I think it looks a whole lot like a SIP one.
On closer inspection....its a SIP one.
Phone up company up north. They say they were out of stock and sent me the SIP one as they're identical.
We agree to disagree.
This dinnertime I send it back with a refund due.
Ordered a BGM tap from Scooter center, Koln.

watch this space....! 3 weeks and counting!

These are so annoying, the rubber is either just not up to task or it pinches somehow as you turn it off.

This happened to me, i removed and turned the gasket round and reinstalled. No problems so far.

So just to close out this particularly annoying months problem....

BGM tap arrived...installed within 10 minutes.... leak test successful...hopefully forget about said tap for a decade.

All good in the hood.....Wont make that mistake again. BGM every time.

Cheers Kevin

Cor, what a saga Kev, but glad you're fixed up and thanks for posting - was considering the SIP tap for my GTR rebuild but crossed it off the list now! Facepalm emoticon

Well....not impressed...

My choke cable came loose so I had to take the tank off. On doing this (which I wasnt particularly heavy handed with) the plastic top hat (pictured) that sits on the tap broke clean off. It feels like it might be made of swiss cheese

The annoying part is that I now have to spend £21 on a whole new system rather than replacing a 20pence part.

BGM after several messages said that they dont do replacement parts and stopped short of offering a replacement. More annoyingly they seemed to put an exclamation mark after every message like it was a joke. Tw@ts.

So to conclude when they work theyre fine but they're not the dream tap they seem to be and service as usual just aint up to scratch. If only the damn SIP one never had a perma leak.

That part is plastic?!
That doesn't seem like a good idea...

Incidentally I have 2 SIP fast flow taps and neither of them leak...

Are certain batches faulty?

Hi October,
well Ive had two sent me and both 'drip' Meaning that when the tap is isolated theres still maybe a drip every few seconds that comes out of the tap. This has the long term effect of filling up the carb. A few people have noticed this.

Yeah its made of plastic, and seems to have a weak point too...

Hi Spiderweb,

No I honestly don't think I was heavy handed. I was simply easing the tank out. Obviously at some stage the tap rod is against the frame hole which is impossible not to do. If I was doing this like a chump I wouldnt have moaned, but I wasnt!

try metal set or jb welding it back together with a healthy extra thick radius fillet to stop it from breaking again. You shouldnt have to, but its an option. otherwise see if an original one or a spare part off your SIP one will fit. Ive seen them on stella taps before. Sorry to hear your having such bad luck with it.

I leave my fuel tap ON all the time with no issues

if the float needle and needle seat is working like it should then a fuel tap is not needed at all...
