Hey guys,

I needed to replace the head gasket in my GT200 today. I am in the middle of putting everything back together BUT I am concerned the there might be an error in the workshop manual regarding the torque setting for the cylinder head nuts. The setting is Cylinder Head Fixing Nut (*) (4ea) 5.2+/-0.7 +half rotation. This to me is too low. Is this correct?

And quick responses would be much apprreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Cylinder Head Fixing Nut (*) (4ea) 5.2+/-0.7 +half rotation , 7+/- +180 deg Rotation. ???

This is what I see also, and those ?'s aren't mine, they were on the WIKI page here. I agree though that those values do seem terribly low.
Have you looked at the video in the WIKI of the valve adjustment? Good video, but don't remember if the torques are mentioned.
Despite maybe being in a hurry, I'd wait for a good answer before finishing it up.
Good Luck

Torque [lbs·ft (N·m)]
5.2±0.7 +1⁄2 rotation (7±1 +180°)

I'm not up on the NM

The manual shown below.

Seems OK to me - the extra torque required to turn another 180° will bring it to a sensible value, especially with the threads oiled as mandated.

The only place I have found a 'real' torque value for the head is in the guide to the Malossi 4V head.

The value given is 24NM, or 17.7 foot LBS.

Those instructions can be found here...

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a good value to me. Honda's manual does a good job translating. My SH is 20 ft. lbs., I do it in 5 ft. lbs. increments.
