Hello guys (this is my first post here!)

The guy I bought my first vespa, a 1987 LML NV (first motorbike) from had a 4 stroke carb installed.

*assuming LML NV and PX150 are the same

There are only a handful of vespa mechs in Dhaka (my city) and two of them told me to throw out the 4stroke carb and install the default one, which will pump more fuel and keep the engine smooth.

I am confused as to why he installed a 4stroke carb in a 2stroke vespa in the first place ?

Is it harmful for the 2 stroke engine to have a 4stroke carb ?

Don't throw the carb out, sell it to someone who wants a 4-stroke carb. Better still swop it for a 2-stroke version.

He installed it because he probably didn't know there was a difference.

No, it's not harmful but it'll drive you crazy trying to get it running correctly - which you won't.

Listen to the mechanics and get the correct 2-stroke carb for your bike.

There's no problem with that. Just do the correct oil and fuel mix manually and everything will works fine.

I donno know if the ingestion characteristics of a 2 stroke engine can be satisfied by a carb designed for a 4 stroke. I suppose that in some cases a particular carb could be adapted IF the correct circuit overlaps & jetting were available, but I wouldn't want the hassle of figuring that out.
