I could not resist this for $80 at Costco. It's waterproof (even floats) and is shock resistant. The blue tooth works great, the sound is surprisingly good and loud, and I was even able to take a phone call and be understood fine at about 25 MPH. The battery is supposed to last 10 hours between charges.

Its ECOXBT (never heard of it before). ecoxgear.com

I'll have to detach it for charging from time to time but so far I pretty happy with it. I also can't see the clock anymore, but who cares what time it is on a Vespa anyway?

I bought one of these from Costco, and after 2 days, it would not charge. I took it back, and was told they had had a lot of these returned for that same problem. I emailed the company and was told they were aware of this ,and a new model with a fix would be released to Costco in about 2 mos.I am waiting until may for the new model.

Thanks, I appreciate your constructive and helpful comment. I hope the same doesn't happen to me, but at least Costco has a good return policy.

As for the other comment (not yours) about noise pollution, it may have sounded cute but it struck me as a little acidic. I have researched sound systems for the Vespa, be it in-helmet or wired handlebar speakers and everything I saw seemed not worth pursuing for just a few rides that would be fun to have some tunes. This was supposed to be a fun, quick, inexpensive, and temporary experiment. Vespizzare did a great job of trying to suck the fun out of it for me. As the world turns.

You must have empty roads - I find other people's 'music' foisted on me as a bloody nuisance. Almost as bad as the weekly leaf-blowers that are used throughout the year even when fallen leaves are not a problem for most of it.

Enjoy your solo rides.

You pick. Grateful Dead, 25 or 6 to 4 (or other great horn section Chicago pieces), Muse, Rolling Stones, U2, upbeat Willie Nelson, good covers of great Bob Dylan songs, Bob Marley, jam bands, etc...

Thanks, but quite the opposite. My commute is mostly vehicle noise, bus diesel smells, bad drivers and tops out at about 30 MPH. All of the cars are listening to the radio or talking on the phone anyway and at the volume I would play music would not even hear me. I guess I could annoy the occasional cyclist or pedestrian but nothing like a leaf-blower.

I've got to say I'm with jimc on this one. Listening to music via speakers on a PTW is a non-starter.

The volume you need to hear anything over the bike's own noise, the wind noise, and through your helmet is sure to annoy any neighborhood you are riding through.

While your taste in music is not that offensive to me (and agreeable in some of what you've mentioned), how can you assume that others will share your tastes or even want to hear music at all?

I agree. I just like my thoughts. I don't need my tunes when I ride and feel it's dangerous to ride with headphones. Not getting the stereo strapped on like this at all.

P when i had my Honda Helix, Kenwood made a stereo for it. Speakers were on the instrument panel behind the windscreen. I didn't have to crank it way up because the windscreen funneled the music towards me, not everyone else. I did dial it down a bit ( just because) when i was in slower traffic. I rode it for 2 years and nobody ever complained. Ride with what you want. If somebody says it's to loud, adjust accordingly but i doubt they will. Have fun with it.

The advantage of GTV is handlebar because you can use accessories designed to be mounted on handlebars. For example, nice chrome speakers: External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Even when you've been annoyed by loud music from another vehicle, have you ever complained? No - because it's almost impossible to stop, get off, and complain when waiting at traffic lights etc - and you never know just how obnoxious the offender might be. They've already proved they're pretty unconcerned about the rest of society.

Dear all:

I never thought this was anything close to a touchy subject so I am very sorry that I ever started this thread. I got the idea from pulling up next to bigger bikes at red lights, hearing their music, and thinking it would be fun to have some music too. Barring offensive or violent language which does upset me, I guess that I am a little desensitized to hearing music, especially since I like just about every kind of music I have ever heard. I didn't realize that I would create divisive discussion with this so, again, my apologies.

P don't worry. I've ACTUALLY ridden with a similar setup and it's not as loud as people think. Just do what you want,it's your life and bike. I doubt you'll have it cranked up like those trucks that have the bass tuned to earthquake.

I don't have tunes on the scoot, although I've thought about it. I had a 4 speaker stereo on a big Kaw Voyager XII, and I liked it. It had automatic volume so that at slow speeds, it was turned down, and at highway speeds, it was turned up. Because of the full fairing, it was pretty easy to hear without turning it up very far. I seriously doubt it ever annoyed anyone--although my taste in music is toward the easy listening stuff and not the heavy bass stuff.

On a similar "note" (), just last week I was stopped at a stop light in my car, when an old Jeep Cherokee pulled up beside. His bass was cranked up so loud that my interior mirror was vibrating! As he pulled away, I saw that his rear window wiper was bouncing to the bass.

As one who wears hearing aids, I can say with some authority, that was super dumb!

Let me know how it works out. I've been known to use headphones but on a sunny day it would be nice to have those speakers. I wonder how heat resistant they are....

Works great around town at low speeds with the modular helmet in the open position. At 45 MPH and up with the full face helmet position it's not so great to tell the truth, but mostly I am just riding to and from work at 35 mph tops. Not sure about long term exposure to high heat and direct sunlight, but for my purposes I have no concerns about heat. So far the battery retains a charge very well.

Another option:

Shark Motorcycle Audio Stereo on an MP3 500

In some states (for example, Illinois), headsets on a motorcycle are only legal when used in a communication capacity. If I want to listen to music legally, I have to use a stereo.

I know it's selectively (or probably not at all) enforced, but I make it a point to try not to break laws, even ones I may not agree with (like speed limits, but that's a completely different subject...)

I understand (though disagree with) the argument that listening to music while riding is a distraction. I understand, (and agree) that listening to someone else blasting their music is an annoyance at best. (That's why I primarily only listen out on the highway/interstate)

So, to sum up, the Shark motorcycle stereo system is another option. Whether and when you should use one is another matter entirely that may not be quite as cut and dried as it would seem...

Gee somebodies must be grumpy. A negative? Really. Let people do what they want and yes i have yelled at trucks with the base up so loud my teeth rattle a block away BTW back when i had my Helix we didn't have ear buds and Honda MADE them specifically for the Helix. There was even dummy speakers where you could put the real ones in. If you've never had them don't judge. With a windscreen you really can't hear them. The music is vented towards you. I used mine on my commute. When your going 60+ nobody can hear your music.

wow it is surprising where this has gone.

Anyways I think the system you have found looks good, although being only attached with bunji cords it certainly could be lifted easily. I have a uclear system which attaches to my iPhone by bluetooth and sits in my helmet and I usually listen to music via pandora, but soft enough that I can hear the sounds around me. I find listening to the good music is very relaxing, and I liked your music list. I do not think that most people care if there is music except when it is that very loud banging base noise that is not really music and shakes the vehicles around you. So hang in there, enjoy your device and have great rides listening to the music we grew up with.
