Modern Vespa

When I was growing up in Dublin, the Evening Herald had a fleet of Lambrettas with large open boxes built around the rear wheel for delivering papers... they were a fairly prominent sight in the city. I can't find a photo of them. But was shocked to see that they are now back in operation with modern Vespas...

I'm just wondering if this was a common sight in other cities?

Haven't seen newspaper scooters here, but these are a fairly common sight in Melbourne Australia -

I get my "paper" every morning delivered to my wife's I-pad---no scooter delivery guy required, new or old.

newspaper? they still make those?

They did and do still deliver the evening edition papers to newsagents and offices and such. A dream job really

Here's an update that was posted on boards:

The old man done telegrams for post and telegraph (pre an post) and used to have great craic racing with the lads doing the papers. He had the upper hand on the bultaco 2stroke with just a satchel instead of a box

Newspapers here are delivered with by foot with handcarts. Sometimes also on a bicycle, but never on scooter.

They aren't delivered to your house by scooter. It's the evening edition papers. So they get dropped to shops and offices and such. Makes more sense than a big van. You have a small fleet that nips the city centre, cheaper and quicker than a van. It's been that way in Dublin since at lay the 60s so it works well enough
