Bad piece of luck this morning on my '06 GT 200, I was removing the plastic engine cover to Brakleen the dust out, and of course, one of the tabs broke off and fell into the casing.

Checking now on ordering a new one I see that the improved design has rubber mounts for the tabs, good idea, but a bit late for me.

Looks like I need a clutch holder tool, and not wanting to wait for delivery I'm going to make my own. I've been searching for bolt measurements here; I know it's here just can't find them. But I saw a guy on YouTube who just stuck in 2 large, maybe 9/16th" x 3", bolts without any 'mount plate' and broke the 19mm nut free. Very slick...

But are there any downsides to taking this admittedly sloppy shortcut? The video looked simple and effective, but I sure don't want to screw this up.

Thanks much -

Better is to bend a suitably sized U-bolt. Works for me both sides of the pond.

This is a tool I made for my SH and it also works for my BV. I used long bolts and cut the heads off because the threads dug into the aluminum. Cost me $8 from Home Depot. One bolt is longer than the other because of the thickness of the metal bar.
(((I don't remember putting this diagram on my post. It's wrong.)))
Watch the video on YouTube.

That's a good solution breaknwind. I rigged up some scrap here, [I have a rule against buying anything lol], and the nut broke easily. Hard to believe anyone had been in there before at this low mileage, but it sure didn't feel like 40.5 - 44.2 ft. lbs. to me. It will be though when I'm done.

I'm going to make a permanent goody one though soon, I'm looking at a belt/roller job by mid-May. I found an excellent video by Vespa Motorsports done on a 150lx, with some nods to the GT owners. It's a breeze looks like, now to decide on the correct rollers...hmmm

Thanks

Haven't tried it yet, but if the holes in the plate are the same, there's no reason it wouldn't.

Take an old bicycle saddle and turn it upside down.

See the 2 rails? Cool.

Break the plastic seat pan off and cut the rails down.

You now have a tool that goes in to both holes and still lets you put a socket on the clutch nut!

Looks like a loooong U bolt, tapering at what was the front end of the saddle, if that makes sense.

I'd love to post a pic but I can't find it at the moment.

If everyone is confused I'll find it on the weekend and post a pic.

Cheers!

Maybe...
Maybe I just got lucky with this, but when I had to remove the transmission cover off my 2001 ET4, I just got my rather excellent wife to apply the rear brake for me, while I put the socket wrench to good use on the clutch nut. Came off like a dream and went back on just as easily. That being said, it may not have been factory tight as I am the third owner of this particular Vespa.

I've also had good luck with someone holding the rear brake whilst sitting on the scooter seat to put some weight/friction between the rear tyre and the ground. This helps the with overcoming the torque to undo the clutch nut.

This combined with using a long enough 'breaker bar' and socket will do the trick

Bit of marine ply, two bolts and three holes... easy, peasy.
