Hi everyone! So, I bought a 2009 Vespa LX150 thats in relative great shape with the exception of a little carb cleaning, the only problem seems to be an electrical one. I notice that when I activate the front brake, "clicks" that are directly proportional to the engines RPM are produced by the horn at a somewhat muted level. I suspect a bad ground somewhere but have no clue where to start looking. Can anyone please give me a possible starting point? I searched the web but could not find a similar problem. The scooter is bone stock also and appears to have little wear and tear at 1600mi.

Thanks!

Leif

Are you *sure* it's the horn that's sounding, especially if it's only when the front brake is applied? I can't see how an electrical fault could possibly cause what you describe with a stock loom.

Maybe you're hearing this:

From MV's FAQ wiki

FAQ: Why do my front brakes make a whirring / cricket sound?
All modern Vespas make that noise when the brakes are applied, whether you can hear it or not. The sound is produced by air trapped in the holes in the disc when the brake calipers squeeze the disc. It's perfectly normal.

Too funny! Last week my son said he heard "an electrical short or something" coming from the front brakes of our Fly.

It must make a special noise for folks with supersonic hearing. danny*h is right, it's the pads moving over the holes in the disc. Nothing to worry about.

Hehehehe.....

OK, here goes!
The brake light has a dirty outer surround, causing a partially bad earth which draws too much current. The wire that goes from the front brake lever has a switch on it obviously, but the cable in the loom has rubbed slightly against a power/ignition lead inside the loom running down through the head stem causing a partial short. The slight "ticking" sound that is rpm replated is because you also have a break in the outer insulator on one of the windings on your generator rotor, making the "tick" sound as a minor spark inside the loom running down your head stem............
