First the rundown. Most BV350 owners know the stock windshield sucks. I tried the Lip and it worked OK, but when I used an open faced helmet, it deflected road grit into my face and I needed ear plugs. I bought a large windshield and cut it down 3 inches, but it is just too much for my taste.
I figured it's time to balance protection(wind and debris) and aerodynamics(speed and MPG). So I made my first prototype and installed it yesterday and tested it today. The bad news is that I rushed the bending fixture and it caused some vision flaws. The good news is that the second prototype should be the last.
I need to tweak the headlight opening, shorten the height 1 inch and tilt it back about 5 deg.
Now the ride. It's large enough for good protection and I don't need ear plugs. There was heavy cross winds but it handled better than the large screen and it didn't work the engine as hard as the L S. There's more buffeting in the leg and arm area and the turbulence doesn't push my head side to side like the L S. I think tilting it back 5 deg. will work the engine less.
I'm hoping to match the angle of the front cover and I hope 1 inch shorter will keep the shield out of my face when I'm pushing the bike around(in and out of storage).
Tomorrow it's going to rain so I thought I'd spend $9 to drive the van to work. That'll give me the chance to tweak the headlight opening and paint the lower 3rd of the shield. I'll post some pics after I paint it.

Looks really good! When riding, are you looking over it, or looking through it?

Depends on riding position. But I still want to lower it 1 inch. I posted before that I thought that 14 inches above the headlight would be the best height. This one is 15 inches. One day I'll test that theory Nerd emoticon

The optimal height depends on the height of the rider, i.e. the position of the riders helmet. That is to say - there is no one right answer.

The first two pics are of a Biondi large windscreen. I was looking on ScooterWest at the Faco mid size shield. Strange that a large Biondi is 18 inches above the headlight and a medium Faco is 20 inches above the hedlight. Then I saw this **Disclaimer** If you're someone that cares passionately about having the highest visual quality available, you might look into the original Piaggio, Givi, or Biondi windscreens. If you're looking for a reasonably priced screen that looks good and works great, this is for you. So I got the Biondi and it sucks. Doesn't matter though, I knew I would make a custom shield and I needed the hardware.

Paint job done and installed. I like the way it makes the area around the headlight less busy. I do think the corners of the paint job are too sharp. Next time I'll try a shaped trim.

I changed the angle of the shield today at work. I think about 2 1/2 deg. I bent the bars back and milled the center spacer shorter. I think I hit the sweet spot.
The buffeting increased just as much as the handling improved. I still don't need ear plugs and there's less force at the handlebars at 130k(73MPH) and the ride at 90k(50MPH) is perfect 8)
Now that I have the mounting hardware dialed in, I'm taking my time with my bending fixture this time and I studied the thermoforming guide again. This time I'm planning to make a shield with flawless vision.
