but could someone email me how to... incase this happens miles away from home and family...

To open the seat (or at least the 'trunk' on other MP3s) on a 500 without a key, you need to find the cable running to the lock and give it a downward tug. You can find the cable behind the left-hand rear panel, about halfway along and up near the seat rim - it can be seen from underneath. Grab it and pull firmly down, you will hear the lock click open. HTH.

get something like medium gauge wire and put it on that wire he is talking about. let it hang down a little, so when you lock your key in the pet carrier, just give the wire a pull to unlock your seat.

That is what I did to my 500.

But don't pull too hard, you don't want that wire to get too loose.

Since I've not looked up there yet, is it possible to place a zip tie around the wire and just let it hang down for the eventuality of locking the key in there or some other malfunction?

if you do that, make it a long zip tie ... cut off any excessive
