So, a few of us were visiting and thought we should start thinking about the fall gathering. I think we have decided on Blue Ridge Motorcycle Camp covering the weekend of September 26, 27 and 28. Some will no doubt arrive Thursday September 25 and it is possible that some may stay over for Monday 9-29. Come for the entire time, come for a day, come one, come all for the best scooter gathering in the smoky mountains.

General rules: 250 cc or higher, anyone is welcome. We will organize daylong rides and we RIDE first, second and third, with a little sightseeing/shopping fourth. We are usually on the road by 8:00 or 8:30 and usually return to base around 5. Lots of great roads, we'll probably do 150-200 miles on Friday and Saturday.

BRCC offers several cabins ($45 a night, $60 for the 2 cabins with heads) and tent camping.

To the regular crew - Anything I've forgotten, please add!

BRCC is cabins and tents only
I got a PM asking about sites for campers - BRCC is tents and cabins only.

There is a small parking area outside the campground (for tow vehicles), but it is not for camping. The parking lot is separated from BRCC by a creek with a small bridge - only vehicles allowed across the bridge are motorcycles and the BRCC owner personal vehicles.

I'm sure there are other camping locations nearby, but I haven't researched that. Google is your friend...

to futher clarify this issue

If your scooter or motorcycle can tow a pull behind typical m/c camper/trailer , yes those are allowed.

I call to make reservations for cabin for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, but got answering machine. Left vox msg with my request and cell number. I hope they still have some cabins left.

I ask for one in the same row/area as you guys.

Looking forward to this, as Fuzzy did a great little writeup with pics and a route map on the NC700 forum:

Grand total of one outlet per twin bed room as part of light switch by door. Queen beds used to have one on ceiling fan over bed, not sure if he added the light switch one in the queen rooms.

As OAD said give him a call to make sure you get right room.

I'm in #6. Check in Thursday 25th and out Sunday 28th. This location was my first Gathering. Really looking forward to it.

On the electrical outlets. Good idea to pack a long extension cord with multiple outlets if you have a lot of gadgets.

From Fuzzy in the Vogel gathering thread.
Fuzzy wrote:
A lot of questions the last couple days about experience. The primary goal of gatherings is fellowship and meeting fellow MV members. One of the other goals of the Gatherings is to introduce people to the joys of Mountain Riding. We will leave no one behind.

Perhaps our ride guidelines will help. I have copied this from the Little Switzerland Gathering thread. We will review them prior to ride for understang.

RIDE RULES
Goal #1 is everyone's' safety.

Goal #2 is to have a good time.

Expectation - No "Scooter Time". We will use Eastern Daylight Savings Time and leave on time.

1. Ride your own ride. We will be on twisty mountain roads. Do not feel you have to keep up with someone else. Do not ride at a pace faster than YOU are comfortable with. There is nothing on this ride a rider with little experience can't do safely at their own pace. The second best rider in the group would likely have an accident if trying to keep up with O.A.D. if he is going all out.

2. Either Doug or Rick will be in the lead the majority of the time. Depending on group size we may split into two groups each with a lead and trail.

3. Keep the person behind you in site. If someone needs a slower pace (see #1) or has trouble we do not want to leave them behind. From the front typically only a couple others are in view so we must all be looking out for the one behind as well as watching the road.

4. If you need to stop turn on your emergency blinkers. If you see emergency blinkers on behind you turn on yours to get the signal for need to stop to the lead rider.

5. We will specify meeting points if we get separated. If you have a cell phone and are separated contact either Doug or Rick by phone. Leave a message if not picked up. Unfortunately much of the time we will be out of cell coverage.

6. Let faster riders pass. If overtaken by others drop back to make some room in front of you, pull to the right side of the lane and when safe wave them around. Don't copy the Harley riders as road hogs.

7. When on straight section of road (not often but there is a little) ride a staggered formation. First bike to the left of lane, Next 1 second back to the right, third bike to left one second back. This puts the bike 2 seconds behind one directly in front and 1 second from bike staggered to the other side of lane.

8. At intersections double up to go through stop sign or stop light 2 at a time.

9. Do not break the law trying to stay together at intersections. Don't run lights or stop signs. If we are split up then following #3 will help the leader know to slow down and wait for rest of group to catch up.

10. At some locations we may split up the group to let riders challenge themselves. Preferably at least have a partner to look out for each other and gather at the next meeting place

11. If wanting to split from the group for a personal side trip or shorter ride make sure ride leaders know so we don't waste time looking for you when we realize you are gone.

12. The least experienced riders should be right behind the lead rider.
Number 2 may need to be updated.

And to reiterate Fuzzy's scooter time statement.
Quote:
As Fuzzy said in the original thread we will not be on scooter time. There will be frequent stops but if every bathroom break takes and hour we will be finishing Saturdays ride on Sunday.

So who will be coming from the South? My plan is to leave sometime on Wednesday from Welaka, FL and do half of the trip (maybe a little more than half) and then hit some of the twisties in North GA on the way in Thursday to knock off some of the flat land cobwebs. Then leave early on Sunday and do the 539 miles home on super slabs in one day.

If all things work out I will be coming. I'm in Greenville South Carolina.

Even if I don't stay, I will come up to ride. I would love to explore my backyard more.

I will probably ride up to Asheville NC this weekend. I have a craving for chocolate truffles.

Some pics I found.

Cabins along the rear of the property. I stayed in the one in the middle the last time the gathering was here.

For Cubs. Looks like there might be some options for a hammock in the camping area or by the brook. This is from http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=631074&page=38

Behind the sign on the left is for truck/trailer parking. It's a little tight but doable. I think this sign may have changed though.

I just talked to them and have learned that there is a single outlet in the room. It is located near the door and is a switch and outlet in a single gang box. It looks like this:

Re: Ponydrvr's comment, I can tell you the set up in my cabin (#5 I think) from a couple of weeks ago: standalone light switch and then a two hole outlet, not attached to the wall, literally dangling from its cord, which is extending from under the light switch. So, very rustic, but yes there is power.

We are kind of interested but I don't know yet. Guess we need to make up our minds real quick, may be too late already to get a cabin. But we could bring the RV. I got enough experience now, I think I could handle the mountains better this time.

Hopefully I can get away from work.
I hope Internet works at this place, I need to visit the Website.

I just called...
Cabin #4/#5 can connect to Internet.

The others do not, and would require going to the Lounge Area that has Internet. My AT&T iPhone has Hot Spot Capability, but they tell me AT&T does not work very good. I actually think I can make this one. It looks like an easy ride up from Marietta like going to Murphy.

I can confirm that AT&T does not work very well at BRMC. Their wifi works great in the lounge area and about 50 feet out. I think they have a wifi set up out by the pavilion and campfire, but it was not working during our recent visit.

I climbed the path to Mt. Pisgah's top one time and I thought I was going to DIE! If I did it now I would die.

Asheville is one of my favorite US cities. It reminds me of what I liked best about Boston, Quebec City, and San Francisco.
