I started the engine on my GT 200 only to hear a scraping/clinking sound coming from inside the transmission cover. Upon removing the cover I noticed these marks inside the clutch bell. Is this indicative of the clutch nut(46mm?) coming loose. I experienced the rpms rising and falling at constant throttle before a stud broke off of the flywheel. I was thinking of taking the clutch to the local motorcycle shop to have the nut tightened. Does it look like it's threaded on far enough? Should I use Loctite before tightening? I can't find a torque figure in the shop manual, does anyone know the torque value? Thanks for the help!

Update: The clutch is fine. The marks from the factory are still lined up. Upon inspection I found that the variator nut was loose and the anti-vibration o-ring had gone missing. I am absolutely certain that I properly installed a new anti-vibration o-ring at my last belt change about 1,000 miles ago. I am also certain that the belt was loose between the two half pulleys when I torqued a new variator nut to 61 lb./ft. I am going to use Loctite on the threads under the variator nut from now on.

Glad it's ok. I'm going to be doing my belt and rollers later in the year.

Hachi, when the stud broke off your flywheel, did you fix it yourself, or was it a dealer take-in? A broken flywheel sounds so serious, yet the varying rpm's symptom is fairly common and could be so many things, especially to a new owner. I searched here for one of your well written posts, maybe even pics, but found nothing.

Also, off-topic, but how are you getting 81mph. out of your 200? I"m happy at 70mph max, but sure would be fun to have more some days.

But glad it's sorted and all's fine again!

LapinAgile, thanks. When the stud broke off of the flywheel I replaced it with a spare that I had on hand. Here is a link to that thread Boom goes the waterpump(GT 200) I just got everything sorted today.

I "think" that the rpms rising and falling at constant throttle was due to the variator nut coming loose.

I have seen 85 mph indicated one cool morning on flat ground. I may have had a slight tailwind. Usually I can get anywhere from 77 to 82 indicated in a full tuck on level ground with little wind. My GT 200 is bone stock except for Dr Pulley sliders. I have always run it rather hard

Thanks for this Hachi, I read that thread but didn't remember the broken stud part. I really enjoy mine also at wot, it's so stable and leans so well. Those Dr. Pulleys are going on with an oem belt shortly, really looking forward to the difference.
Glad you're sorted now.
