I have to port match the case and smooth out the ports on a new kit. Just wondering what you guys would recommend for bits?

Ive used a carbide cutter like this to do the broad strokes.
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Dremel-Tungsten-Carbide-Cutter-9910/203362672?cm_mmc=shopping-_-shopzilla-_-D25-_-203362672&srccode=cii_10043468&cpncode=26-329336067-2 Then I used the drum sander to smooth and polish. http://www.amain.com/product_info.php/cPath/89_1993_1056/products_id/33460/n/Dremel-1-2-Drum-Sander?utm_source=Google-Base&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Product-Feeds&gclid=CPbmn7TY7b0CFS9p7AodCiUAZQ |

Thanks! I have a ton of the sand paper style, just did not have any reference to what bit to use to cut down metal at a good speed without going through a ton of bits.

Good thread! Also, I'm getting a better one here soon. What is the sweet spot for a new machine, considering price and quality. Vader, I'm looking to you because I've seen you blow through a few of em.

I find the cutter mentioned to dig in quite fast, making it less handy for larger surfaces.
I prefer a bit beefier egg shaped cutter, which allows for rounding corners (e.g. the bottom of a transferport) easier. Also the click-on polisher is quite nice. |

I honed my skills working on antique clocks so learning precision control was critical. I think that how the tool is used is just as important as to what bur is used.
I like the CT egg shaped also for removing lots of material and for having control. I also like the diamond needle burs for fine detail work. I've burned through a few dremels. Right now my main go to is a black and decker with flex shaft. A flywheel holder tool is perfect for hanging the unit when using the flex shaft. For polishing I like the bullet tips and work down to polishing rouge. Also remember that if it seems like your tool is loosing power or wearing out often all you need to do is replace the motor brushes. |
