Hi Folks,

This is for an MP3-400.
I'm confident that one of the front brake pads failed prematurely.
I always heard a rubbing sound on that side but now it's a grinding noise.
Also the disk on that side has also been badly scored as compared to the other side.

So...
I found JimC's procedure for changing the front brake pads.
The procedure seems straight-forward.
The procedure in the manual for removing the rotors also seems simple enough.
However, advice is always welcome.

Questions:
1. Are there left and right rotors?
The parts list shows the same number, but I want to confirm.

2. OEM rotors from AF1 Racing are ~$90.
I found these from JC Whitney for $35.
Does anyone have experience with them or would like to offer an opinion?

3. Is there a cheaper source for pads other than AF1 Racing?

4. Is the pin that holds the pads directional? i.e. does it have to be inserted from a particular side?
The reason I ask is both pins that are in there now, have the clip on the right side.

Thanks,
Kevin

1. same rotor
2.galfer makes good rotors, never tried them on a MP3 though. thanks for the link as I will probably order a set
3. aftermarket pads like EBC are good, you would need SFA 260 for the fronts. either oem or EBC. AF1 has good pricing on parts.
4. just reinstall the pin the same way you take it out.

There's a reason for that low price...
The listing is misleading.
It's only for pads, NOT ROTORS!
And not even the right kind of pads!

It wasn't until I put it shopping cart that I only saw pads.

grrr What The? emoticon

A friend of mine installed the Galfer model, but the price has nothing to do ...

Is there a part#?
or am I also looking at an adapter to make it fit?
They are good looking rotors.
I imagine they are also very light.

Brake Pad Change Procedure
Hi Folks,

I'm looking though JimC's directions for replacing the pads.

A few questions:

1. What is coppa-slip?
Is that an anti-sieze compound?
What is an alternative if I can't find it.

2. If the pistons are hard to push back - and I'm worried that one of them is bad because I hear a constant scraping coming from one of the disks.

3. The procedure in the manual to overhaul the calipers doesn't look too difficult Do you have to bleed the system afterwards?
If so, I'm inclined to take it to a dealer if a piston is stuck.

3. is there anything in replacing the rotor I should be aware of?
Do you still use anti-sieze on the rotor bolts?

1. copper antisieze
2. use the old pads to push against with a flat screwdriver to push the pistons back in
3. I personally can't find replacement seals and pistons in the parts manual to rebuild them.

I do have a good used caliper if your interested, just send me a pm

Yes, you would have to bleed the brake line when a caliper piston is removed.
