Anybody interested in meeting up for breakfast in Vista, CA on Saturday April 26th?

I'm going to check my work schedule and if I can make it I will.. I'd love to scoot the backroads.. I haven't scooted in Vista since probably '86.

I'm new to Socal, and wonder how to drive a scooter south along the coast past camp pendleton and into san diego county, without using the 5 freeway. The only route seems to be to go inland, east of pendleton. Any local knowledge scooting from south orange county down the coast to north san diego county?

I don't think you can these days. (could be wrong and if so I'd like to know how too)
The frotange road used to go through many years ago, but I think you'd have to hop on the 5 in San Clemente and get off at the Oceanside harbor..

I did ride from Holywood to SD and back on the 101 and 5 the whole way when I was a teen but I was a crazy yoot and didn't think twice about it.. no helemt either!

I read somewhere (I am pretty sure it wasn't The Onion) that you can ride through Pendleton, need proof of insurance, dl and registration.

If that's true then it could be possible to get on the 'cycle route' from san clemente along the old 101, through San Onofre state beach and keep on the cycle route to Las Pulgas, where you can get onto pendleton, going all the way through the camp to Oceanside.

This one says no, but maybe there's a secret way?

I'll check with the camp about taking a scooter through to Oceanside. If its allowed then there's only a mile or so of bike route on the old highway to do a cheeky scoot through to get to Las pulgas & onto pendleton.
Would be sweet to be able to get on the old pch at Oceanside and drive down the coast.

Interesting.. I may have to give it a try on a trip down.. worst case they turn me away and I hit the freeway for a stretch...

Well, my wife just informed me that she thinks some Los Angeles folks went through the base on their way to AmeriVespa last year.

Alrighty then.. all we need now is for Len to tell us when the re-schedule is scheduled for!

How does May 3rd look?

I have cycled quite a bit through Pendleton. Occasionally access is denied at the gates, or even a mile or 2 before, because of military manouvres etc. My guess is that when motorbikes or scooters have been denied it is also due to manouvres.

I went thru Pendleton with a group of scooters twice last year. (Amerivespa)
They only asked for I.D. from the lead rider, then let the rest through.

Did you enter Pendleton at Las Pulgas? Also out of interest, which route did you take going south to get to Pendleton?
