Modern Vespa

I'm still classified "Lurker," but also have only 500 total miles on my GTS 300 Super which I love riding. Clueless about scooters, in general, but irrationally drawn to a Vespa, I find the Modern Vespa site and those who post, including those who provided generously helpful responses to my initial questions concerning how to transport the Vespa long distances, extremely helpful in my belated education. I hope to have the initital 625 mile service completed sometime this week. Grateful for the site and all who post.

you already have enough miles to do the service. schedule with the dealer if they are doing it for you, its spring and they can get really busy right now.

I wondered about that mileage--whether to err slightly under or over the 625 mile schedule for the break-in.

the initial oil and filter trap any metal shavings left in from manufacturing and parts rubbing in. getting these out is what the first service is all about. don't delay.

its not that you have actually used the oil life up.

I've got a service appointment scheduled for Friday at the dealer for the Break-In check and oil change. Here I am posting on a site with nothing to say--just as I get on that Vespa nearly every day--without any particular place to go! Spent a day waving back at half a dozen different Amish buggies who are also vulnerable on the State Routes we travel.

Yes, I have a picture, but need to learn the language for following instruction to reduce it for posting, and even for how to go about adding pictures. I suppose "Avatar" refers to substituting a picture for the shadow block by my name. I may have to wait until I can get a little help from one of my grandchildren. I thought at first that riding the freeway with 30 mph crosswind gusts, further disturbed and agitated by semi-trucks, required full attention, but this computer posting to a group is a more complex activity for my 74 year old mind.

Is there any reason to worry that hackers might be able to mine more information from a posted digital photograph on this site than would be discrete? Some sites, I am told, automatically remove information inadvertently attached to photographs.

So which county are you in? Geauga or Holmes?

I live in Clark County. My parents lived in Holmes County where I am familiar with much of the activity in the Millersburg-Charm-Walnut Creek-Nashville area, having flown our small airplane into the Millersburg Airport too many times to count, but my ride among the Amish this particular day was in Logan County. It's so much more fun on a Vespa. Maybe I am recapturing the delight I knew as a very young boy in the 1940s riding my Old Mennonite cousins' much smaller red Vespas around the farm.
