Had the LX out for its maiden spring voyage today. Ran like a top. I noticed that my clear plastic face shield on my 3/4 helmet was really grungy. I took it off and scrubbed it with warm water and mild dish soap. The dirt came off but there are blemishes in the plastic from going in and out of the pet carrier.

I priced a new one but they are around $12-$18. Not too pricey but I hate to throw this one away because of a few scuffs and scratches. Has anyone used plastic polish to re-furbish their face shield? If so, is it easy to do?

Don't use anything but the finest polish. Some of them come in different "grit" and the scratch remover ones may remove some larger scratches but make it almost impossible to see through with all the fine scratches it adds.

Try using Lemon Pledge. Helps hide some of the scratches.

Plexus is a really good cleaner/polish for day to day use. If you have some scratches, Novus comes in three grades and can be used to remove all but major damage.

toothpaste is a great fine scratch remover. just rub it in with your finger or a microfiber cloth in small circular motion and rinse.

I'd try Mother's water spot remover. It is a very fine abrasive.

i have and its a time consuming job.
ive currently got 2 helmets that both need polish work and im putting it off because it will take at least an hour each to get right by hand although i may employ the buffer. still im not leaping at it.

for that money id say buy a new one then experiment with getting the blemishes out with the suggestions given, that way youve got one as a spare for an easy swap out.

Hi

I have used Greygate plastic polish, its sometimes called Goddards but it is on ebay as Greygate.

I have used it on visors, flyscreens and aircraft canopies.

I think its about £8-9 plus postage but it lasts for ages.

Bit time consuming but thought it worth mentioning

best regards Phil

Novus is another maker of plastic polishes with a good reputation. Used a lot by small plane pilots.

Novus 1 and 2 would likely take care of your needs.

You can use Simichrome polish on the abrasion with a soft cloth. Finish off with some 303 protectant.

Did you ever see the stuff advertised on TV that removes the scratches from eyeglasses?
I don't know if it's the same chemically, but you can get the same results by using Armor-All.
It will only last several months, but it works.
I use Armor-All wipes on my face shield and on my reading glasses to hide the scratches.
Works pretty good for cleaning the outside of the helmet too.
You can also use it to restore the lenses on your car headlights if they haven't gotten too badly fogged.
(Just don't use it on the seat of your scooter or you will regret it!)

To me visors are consumable riding gear. They get too scratched up they get replaced.

That being said I used to swear by plexus but have switched to lemon pledge. Works just as well for about $15 less a can.

By the time you buy the stuff to clean it you could have a new one. Quit being cheap and get one. Laughing emoticon Laughing emoticon The Plum scooter deserves it. Razz emoticon You could keep the old one and refurb it like Trumpy suggested

This stuff works great.

http://www.novuspolish.com/

I've also dipped clear parts in future floor polish. This stuff is amazing. I dip my hockey visor in it all the time. Gets rid of all the tiny micro-blemishes in the plastic.
