I have a quart of this stuff from when I did the brake on my wife's '83 Nighthawk 650. The opened bottle is about three years old. Do you guys think I can still use it?
Thanks in advance,
Harv

I'd toss it. $4 for a new bottle not worth the possibility water vapors got in. I believe the fluid would still be clear even with some water; it's the rust and corrosion products that turn it dark.

Water vapour will turn it milky or opaque. If it is clear, then you can use it. |

I'm thinking that by the time the fluid turns milky, it no longer qualifies as DOT4.
A 1% water contamination of brake fluid drops the boiling point by 100 F. Shelf Life. [Tip from Castrol RE: LMA Brake Fluid] Shelf life is no longer than 2 years, provided the oil has been stored in a cool, dry area, with no extreme fluctuating temperatures and the seal has remained intact. Granted we aren't riding Gran Prix here, but for a few dollars more the risk isn't worth it to me. |

no .... in easy terms itll have absorbed water from out there n water is more squishy than the oil so youd be better off leaving the old stuff in .....
if the bottle has enough room in it you could use it to bleed into n then take said oil for safe disposal |
