Morning all

Just notcied this today while the bike was idling. The brake light was flickering by itself and sometimes staying on...

I fitted two new brake light switches a couple of weeks ago, seemed to be fine. Ive fitted a washer to the right hand one as the light was hard to get on after I changed the pads.

I stopped to get cash on my way into work so had another look. When it was off I tried both levers several times and the light came on and went off fine, then when left alone the light would come on and stay on for a bit, then go off and then back on again

Could it be a dud switch or could be an issue down at the light end?

Cheers

Just been out to see if there's any change, its now permanantly on no matter what I do so I guess I'll have to have a look at the switches.

Anything else I should look at?

Cheers

Black switch on brake matser cylinder. You have to remove handle bar cover.

These were both new a few weeks ago but ill have to check them. i wonder if I have disturbed anything while changing the clock battery too,

Another thing I noticed while doing the clock battery is the nut that that secures the rear brake lever had come off, leaving the screw in there. My local bike shop had to adjust my rear brake cable to pass its mot the other week so I'm wondering if this also has any bearing on it

I tried to start the bike after work without touching the brake lever and it starts straight up. Will be opening it up in a bit to see if the switch is stuck

It won't be a stuck switch - it may however very well be a loose switch or a loose brake lever...

It could be that one of your brake light switches is stuck in the "on" position, as this would account for the stop light being on, and being able to start the engine without operating the brake lever.

They can't stick 'on' if the lever is working correctly, and they are screwed in properly. They can stick 'off' though. They are 'push to break' - if they're pushed (normal lever at rest position), the circuit *will* break.

Well.. It's sorted.

Seems that the pads have now bedded in and the washer I fitted to the right hand switch was the culprit. I think it wasn't quite *pushed in* by the lever enough when the lever was at rest anymore.
