Hi everyone, I mentioned this last year, but the problem is still ongoing.
I have a 2010 GTS125 Super ie. It had a fuel pump replaced under warranty before I bought it last year.
In warm weather, once the engine is turned off it won't start again for two hours, after which it's fine. The pump whirrs, the motor tries to start but then instantly cuts out. It's very frustrating because it means I can't use it for short trips, such as going to the shops.
I asked my local Vespa main dealer and they said it could be that the replacement fuel pump was also faulty. They contacted Piaggeo last September about the possibility of replacing it again, and still haven't heard anything.
Now the weather's warmed up, it's started doing it again. And I've had enough.
Here's my question: what it be better if I sourced a new fuel pump myself and got a garage to fit it. I think I've found a cheap, original pump but would it be a big/expensive job having it fitted?

I don't know how true this is but ive either read or been told to let the engine management light turn off before starting the GTS otherwise the fuel pump gives up ... Something to do with the ECU setting or some blah blah... Dunno if that helps but maybe worth a try if your not doing this already

Good luck

Considering the history Piaggio has had with fuel pumps and if your dealer has sold several large framed Vespas, one would think that a good dealer would take the repair on themselves and work it out with Piaggio after the fact. They've put you in a hardship situation not thinking of you as a customer but as a liability. I'm not sure how Piaggio's warranty reimbursement works, but having been brought up in the family's automobile business, most manufacturers will allow their dealers to do good faith repairs occasionally at the discretion of the dealer. Considering the part and labor aren't horrendous, I'm a bit confused why they've put you in the box they have. I would ring Piaggio USA and get someone on the phone and not let them off the phone until your problem is remedied. BTW, if your dealer was conscientious about your happiness, they would have already done this. This is pitiful, really piss poor

Just realized that you're in Queen's Land. Again, I would ring Piaggio UK and have a go with someone on the tele

I've heard of shops that replaced the fuel pump with the same defective model (either from stock or which had been removed from a different scoot).

Read through this thread (with pictures) and see if you can get an eyeball on your scoot's pump to see if you have the new or old model in place:

Nitty-gritty on fuel pumps.

That's really helpful everyone, thanks! I have sourced a new and original fuel pump at a bargain price. It should arrive next week, so then just have to find a local scooter garage to change it. Not sure if I want to give my custom to the Vespa main agent who's done zip to help me.

Just make sure to look at the photos in the thread I linked to above to make sure you aren't installing one of the recalled fuel pumps.

I will thanks. Apparently this new fuel pump has a date on the packaging of October 2013, so it should be okay. But I'll check for the blue dots!

It's easy enough to change yourself - just remember to put the centre-stand on a piece of wood at least 4" high to give clearance for the tank to come out.
