Hi MVers,

I found a very good condition Porcelain and Brass badge (circa 1930) from the National Automobile Club in the desk I inherited from my father's estate. My father restored several cars to their original build sheets, and he had this badge on the dash of his 1924 Dodge Roadster. He removed it prior to the sale of the car. He also restored a 1923 Ford Model T and a 1947 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet -so my dad was always playing with cars, the way I play with my scooter and my cars too.

Here's my quandary. I am thinking of mounting this on my top case, as a way to have a bit of my dad with me on my rides. I would be sick if it got stolen, and I doubt that people who thieve would be attracted to such an odd emblem. I figure that people who recognize the emblem for what it is would leave it be. I recognize that I'm probably being optimistic and naive, but I'm tempted to do it just the same. BTW, eBay shows these to have a value of $150-$180 USD.

So, would you mount it?

No I would see if you could get a vinyl (sticker) copy made and then keep that one safe at home or mounted in your car.

Agreed. Too pretty to risk.

Hell no.

The sticker idea is fantastic by the way.

Unless you can guarantee it stays in your sight out in public at all times, there's no way that thing doesn't get stolen by some degenerate a-hole who will probably sell it for crack 5 minutes later. It may not happen sooner but it will happen later...the world is not populated by MVers only.

The $$ value isn't worth worrying about. The sentimental value is the real value. Only you know how you'd feel if it was stolen or lost.

I will normally lend my tools to a friend/neighbor. But I have a plain-Jane claw hammer that I will never lend out. It belonged to my dad long before I was born. He gave it to me to help complete the first set of real tools I put together for my own use. Last year I had to replace the 60 year old handle. I kept the original handle and it's got a place in my roll around tool chest.

I'm sentimental about things like that.

My $0.02

Have a vinyl sticker made, or find one.

That is a special thing, ie. worth more than money.

You could buy a second one and mount that....but don't risk 'that' one.

I have a 71' Rally that my brother gave me 6 months before he passed, I would be gutted if anything happened to that bike. It gets ridden rarely.

Silly to have an object mean so much to you(me).

I'm okay with silly.

IMHO

Another one for the sticker idea. Keep it safe and someplace you can still enjoy it (just not out in public).

It is special but special is fleeting. I would mount it and if it is stolen? ... I would think about the feather in the movie "Forest Gump". If it were stolen would it effect your posterity? Would it effect anything really?

Add another one for the sticker...even though I get stickyfrog's point. Kudos to Gasmk1 for doing the ebay search. Aces, dude!

NO STICKER!
MAGNET the back of it, that way you can remove it so no sticky fingers can get it...I have a roadrunner bird with 'roadrunner' at the bottom that I migrate around Stella (sometimes legs held, sometime glovebox lid) never slid or lost it, took it off though when took it in for service so it wouldn't get lost.

You'd be surprised what people steal. Get a sticker made and wear it proudly. Put the original in a shadow box and display it . Very cool.
