I was thinking of getting that one off trademe. But it was too far south for me, & I blew my cash on a few SS180's
Can you do a photo with the engine cover off?

Looks like its been smacked in th front, ie fork needs replacing

Here is a photo of side cover off
I dallied one of the rivets holding the serial number plate to see if anything underneath
You may be right about having hit in front as the forks are buggered where the bolt goes through to hold the headset. It's all slogged out.
How do I know if chassis is damaged from this?
It seems ok
Had a quick look at the link still can't match anything
Not sure what model to buy parts for?

i saw this on trademe too.

i dont know what kind youve bought.
To get a better gauge, show us some pics from the rear and what size wheels has it got and 3 or 4 speed?

Before you go buying parts for this. Make sure the floor area that has had the mats on, is recoverable within your expense. it looks like a lot of rust under the double seam under the centre floor mat. And the edges where the tube meets the floor look totally munted.(but that hopefully is just dirt flaking off)

frame stright?
Got a long straight ruler or a lazer pointer from a 2 dollar shop? remove the seat and the headset, use the line from the rear seat seam to the centre of the top of the fork, if the front seat seam lines up with both of those then its straight. your looking for any front end deviation.

Price up what its going to take to get the body work done and the areas rewelded ( plus if its not straight, re-jigging ) first, before worrying about dropping $1000 on decking out the engine and ancilleries.

Ok it has 8 inch wheels
The twist grip LEDs me to think is 4 speed as it has numbers 1-4
I spoke with a guy today he has indicated that it is a douglas assembled in nz
Seems through a company called AIRCO now gone bust.
He suggested it won't match any European serial numbers
Best guess is that it is the same as a VBB
Have stripped it down ready for welding and blasting
Seems to be straight but think forks may need replaceing
