Will need to go to NJ with my scoot from. I have two option. The first is riding the back roads for 5 hrs or crossing the George Washington bridge to my destination in 3 hrs.
Has anyone has done that with a 250cc. Thanks

At less then a mile the GW bridge would be no problem for the 250. Now the other motorists on the bridge, they are the ones you have to be cautious of especially the one's not looking for the mighty scooter.

I remember my first Hudson River GWB crossings (on the 300 GTS) about 4 years ago, I was nervous with unknown anticipation. Now looking back, it's pretty old hat. The approach lanes are the nerve wracking part
You are coming from (CT?). If so, for me it'd be an easy decision, I'd make the extra time available and try to take the long way (Backroads!). There are many scenic ways to get from CT to NJ, and vice versa, with several that don't cross the Hudson at the GWB. I make the trip more than a few times each year. Send me your starting and ending points and I'd be more than happy to recommend a route you'd likely enjoy. |

Done it many times on a 150cc ET4 and on a 150cc Lambretta. You'll have no problem on a 250cc. Take the upper deck.

I can think of a lot of things that could be nerve wracking on a trip from CT to NJ. The GWB is the least of the.
But do use the Martha Washington for the crossing. Martha is the one spread out directly under George. (very old joke) |

I've ridden the interstates and bridges down here and haven't been blown about by cross winds. You can feel the wind but you just compensate by leaning a bit against it if necessary to hold the line you're riding. Much like riding in the rain it becomes less stressful the more you do it. |

There's an anxiety disorder that relates to this topic; here's a description from Wikipedia:
Gephyrophobia (from Greek γέφυρα - gephura, "bridge"[1] and φόβος - phobos, "fear"[2]) is an anxiety disorder brought about by the fear of bridges. As a result, sufferers of gephyrophobia may avoid routes that will take them over bridges. I used to drive a delivery truck around the San Francisco Bay Area and for some reason I always freaked out a little bit on the Carquinez Bridge. Not on any of the other bridges, only on that one and only enough to understand what it would be like to really suffer from such a thing. Not saying it comes into play here, just that its interesting. |

I've crossed it many times on a 150 and a 200. Easy peasy. Take the upper deck. Most times speed is not a factor since traffic slows on that bridge. I don't recall ever having an issue with wind on that bride. The only bridge that has given me wind issues was the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

No problem. I do the Verrazano everyday (windy as hell). Keep a light grip on handlebars and shift weight forward.

Agree with Vespiti. The Cross Bronx Expressway is covered with pot holes, hasty repairs, steel plates, and traffic that limits evasive action. That is your problem, not the bridge itself. Unfortunately, avoiding the Cross Bronx will cost you almost as much time as the scenic route would.
