While I was outside working on my vbb a guy walks by and asks if I needed another one, so I said "yes, why yes I do."
So its in my garage now.
The plate above the glove box says it's from august of 1977. After some wiping and encountering the largest GD spider I've ever seen I got the serial # on the engine, typed it in scooterhelp, and says it's from 1978. I know there is no such thing as matching numbers on a vespa but did they do this type of thing from the factory?
I'm happy the motor is from '78 though, having the ducati ignition and all.
It's been under a tarp outside since at least 2002 when it was last tagged. Seller says it smoked. I don't know if he just wasn't used to 2 strokes, or if it has a bad seal somewhere. Whatever. Everything is stiff and gummed up. However, the engine turns nicely and makes a spark, I'll have to check compression.
No keys, luckily the steering lock isn't engaged but now I'm wondering what's in the glove box. Money? Bowie knife? The missing brake light lens?
