So I get the chance to go for my first ride in about three weeks and the bike won't turn over. It acted like it wanted to turn over but just clicks. I jump the bike and it turns over. Ok, YAY! However, I'm not totally dumb. I let it run for about ten to twenty minutes. Shut it off, and it won't turn back over just clicks.

So is it a dead battery? The man I bought it off of in February said he put a new battery in it, and he hadn't had the bike for six months.

Or

Is it something else?

Just a single click when you press the start button? Or a couple clicks? Try varying pressure on the handbrake lever as you hit the start button, try both levers or just front brake lever only. While it may be the battery there could also be coincidental issue with switches and starting relay sequence.

Nothing to lose by trying.

You need a voltmeter to check your battery. There are plenty of threads about checking it but to get you started you should see 12.7 volts or more when there is no load. This should drop to no less than 12.4 with the ignition on and when you hit the starter it would go down (temporarily) as low as 8 or 9 volts but recover back quite quickly when you release the starter.

Most batteries have a date of manufacture stamped on them so you might be able to get an idea of how old the battery actually is.

Batterys do just "die", sometimes ! When a battery losses power, the worse thing to do is charge it back up fast, like running the bike. Slow trickle charge for 1-3 days is only a fair chance to revive them. Most times the down battery is really "down for the count " !

Bummer
At least you get rain for a few days, to wait for a new battery.
