Modern Vespa

Each mounting of my Vespa causes me to think of her as "Glim," a likely out-of-fashion name for the margin between two distinct environments, especially that place where land and sea come together, often presenting an observer with either new insight or else mirage. I had forgotten what it is like to see as once I must have seen on a motorcycle that was not so quiet as the Vespa which allows the rumble of wind noise to become so much more apparent that I now take time before setting out to insert ear plugs at my old age, something I neglected to do in younger days. My dwelling place is not the seacoast, but this Vespa provides similar looming of objects as those perceived in a coastal atmosphere. The first 600 miles have been like those first solo flights in a light airplane and sailplane, or when alone in a sailing dinghy, managing to return to the mooring unscathed before having gained even minimal competence sailing. The whole world appears transformed in this once again beginner's mind, and it's all that much better for my happening upon this group of riding enthusiasts.

Beautifully put. A scooter, with its less bulky and noisy presence, doesn't intrude on the experience as much as a motorcycle.
