Greetings from New Hampshire, USA .

It was advertised as a 1959 Allstate Vespa 125. The back story was that the owner parked it in his shed about 25 - 30 years ago with the intent to restore it one day. Body is solid, gas tank has no rust and compression seemed good when I kicked it over.

Started reading this forum and reviewing other sites and the serial numbers and engine stamp tell a different story.

It is definitely an Allstate, but model number 788.94331 makes it a 1964 Allstate.

The engine number is VNB5M 049182 and that is a 1965 vespa engine number.

Frame number VNB5M 05832 is located on a tag in the front of bike under the handlebars, but I cannot find that number.

My best guess is the engine was replaced at some point in the past???

The 788 number is the model which is a "64. The engine number comes up as 1965.The frame number is on the frame lip underneath the package cowl What year is your scoot? Best guess at this point would be a '64 - which is nice because of the four speed gear box.

Square back end , yes it's a 64 at the latest .Still a great scoot parts are very easy to find , keep that seat on it ! That seat looks to be original keep it ! The scoot seems to have just about everything still intact . Buy original parts don't go for aftermarket crap .

Sorry looked closer at the replaced floorboard . You can buy an aftermarket floorboard and it would look much nicer than what you have .

Antler, the floor board , doesn't it look like it is just covered up? Maybe it is salvageable, I hope so. Vfrdylan, I meant to say before, nice project, should be loads of fun. Get it running and ride. And Welcome!

Thanks guys.

Floorboards are fine, they have a rubber like cover with some riveted tin strips. I'll need to do some minor body work before paint, but no rust (found so far).

As for parts, I plan on using oem at every opportunity.

It also seems to be the PO had the rear spare tire rack mounted wrong?

That rack is an original piece and very nice . Unless my eyes are playing tricks the floorboard looks as if it has no channels on the edge for the floor rails to sit . Also it looks as if it's made of six different pieceses but maybe it's just the pics . You can pick up a 64 Allstate body for around $400. I think ones for sale on EBay .

Day 1 of disassembly went ok. I expected to have it all done, but spent a good amount of time cleaning out a large mouse nest. Luckily the urine did not rust the body too bad.

Carb was pretty gunked up and the throttle cable is frozen where it enters the carb, the cable and throttle tubes move freely

No. you have a 1964 Allstate. frame number should be in the VA14T range, (give or take a little, i'm going from memory on that) and is located on the bottom edge of the frame under the glovebox. this series would have shipped with the VNB5 engine.

there is *no* way to date an engine accurately from the motor number. i just had to correct someone on this not minutes ago. the why is buried in here -> 90 racer serial number problems!

Nice old Vespa!

Would you post more pictures of the rack and the mounting hardware? I have a rack just like it that I would like to use.

Thanks!

Here are a couple photos of the bracket. It boots under the rear luggage rack.
