Hi All..

Totally newbie here. I purchased a used GTV 250 with 450 Miles on it.
Already @ 600

First service completed yesterday.
Anyhow, I have a couple of questions:

First I noticed that when I press the left break the scooter actually vibrates a little different. Thats even with the lightest application of break. Not concerning but is something I noticed. Also, I noticed that in order to crank the scooter I need to depress the right handle. Left doest do anything.

Also, today I noticed the brake light is not lid when applying the left handle.

Is this normal????

---------------------------

My last question is regarding powering up the scooter. I notice a little hesitation from time to time when cranking the bike. It take a second or two of depressing the start button and sometimes is even hesitates and stop; to the point that I need to quit pressing the start button and press it again.

My Kymco Like 2014 (Vespa looks knockoff) doesn't have any of these behaviors or symptoms. Should I be concern? Do I need a new battery?

That is normal. Applying the rear brake locks the rear suspension, and the resonant frequencies change.

No, your rear brake light switch is either defunct or disconnected. Open up the headset and investigate.

Possibly. Get yourself a multimeter (less than USD10) and measure the battery volts. When cold, in the morning, they should be 12.6V or slightly more. They shouldn't go much below 11V when the starter is cranking, and should rise above 13.6V when the engine is running - but never to exceed 14.8V when revving.

The battery may just need charging up (get a motorcycle specific battery tender) - or if more than two or three years old, with some neglect, it should be changed out anyway.

Thanks Jimc.... Whe you say open the headset; is this the front center panel which gives me access to the horn? Sorry, I'm still learning the terminology.

Total newbie.

The headset is the cover on the handlebars. Google "removing GTS headset" and you'll find an excellent how-to YouTube video by Mic Bergsma.

Thank you both! FIXED.
The GTV Doesn't have full cover or at least full headset cover. The handlebar, wires and lines are pretty much exposed. So no need to remove anything. The cable that goes into the handle trigger switch was disconnected. Plugged it in and voala!

It's working... I'll check my battery voltage in the morning.

Another thing I noticed is that the headlight and driving (pilot light) are both on when I move the ignition switch to on. I think this is by design; but I felt it will make more sense if only the driving (or smaller light) was on, and the actual headlight lid once the engine is running.

Good fix.

The 250's have the headlight coming on with the ignition - the 300's have it come on when the engine is 'happy'.

Better still IMHO would be to have a separate light switch - but DRL regulations saw those disappear some years ago.
