Hi, I am considering this rack from classic racks UK. I like how it curves around the bike's rear, following the contour of the solo seat. My question is this...how practical is such a rack? What kind of luggage does it accommodate in your case? Thanks.

Here is a pic borrowed from their website:

I have one. Well made, and looks great.

You can strap just about anything up to and including a sleeping bag or tent to it, but for something that would compliment the aesthetic, I had to look around before I found a bag (an over-sized fanny pack) that I could modify to strap to it.

If you are asking if it is a perfect replacement for the stock GTS spring loaded rack, the answer is no. It doesn't have as much carrying surface/capacity, nor can it hold things level (like a pizza!). It also can't accept a typical top box or case.

But, if you want to attach a roll bag, pouch or tool kit, it is fine.

My sense is that this rack is for people who occasionally carry stuff... not for the daily Vespa pack animals.

But I'd be interested to hear from others. I've heard of some really impressive loads being attached to these Classic Racks.

I wasn't aware of classic racks before, thanks. I like the look of it, I'm planning to use my GTS for camping later this year and it could be perfect to hook my tent and sleeping bag up ro.
Is it easy to install, and do you have to remove the grab rail?
Thanks!

Very easy to install and no, you have the choice of leaving the grab rail in place (although many remove it just for that minimalist look).

That's really helpful thanks! I'm definitely going to order one, then with my new fuel pump arriving next week I'll be ready to hit the highway!

I'm trying to decide whether it would look good in matching red, or to go for a silver?

Thank you for a detailed response. See, my bike came with no rack at all, so I think it is a better option at a lower price for me to get some luggage capacity added. I don't carry much, so an occasional messenger bag or a hard back pack would be an extend of it. Dan

I have a floor rack for my gts and P200. Very functional and look amazing. Didge is also great to work with.

Seconded. I have the footwell rack for my GTS - possibly my favorite aesthetic upgrade I've done, yet it's functional, too! And yes, Didge is a Saint.

Foot well rack on my GTS as well. My rear rack has a topcase mounted and rarely removed except to take it in places like a suitcase so that rear rack while attractive wouldn't work for my use.

For a flattish pack that would strap right on, look at Kriega 10L or 20L. Available at Revzilla.com

Hi Guys, thank you for the kind comments.
I have a slightly more updated website now ( poorly done by myself ) but it shows a gallery of loaded scoots etc. Cheers !

OK, so I ordered one. Can someone tell me what hardware does it come with? It does not rub off the paint under its plate from prolonged usage? Thanks. Dan

It goes w/o saying...
That if you are mounting something on paint and do not want to f up the paint, you must take precautions. When I put on Didge's rack, I mounted some very short rubber bumpers--like 3 mm-- near each corner and bolted it on. No marring, and the water that got under just ran out from beneath. easypeasy.

Well, did it come with the bumpers, or you just cut some from a rubber matt or something? Thank you for replying so fast, by the way. Dan

I had somewhat of the same question. I read that it comes with a rubber pad to protect the paint, but would the paint still be mark free if I installed one on my matte black GTS for a 3-day rally, then took it off?

My classic rack arrived last week, Didge took a lot of care over it and had it powder coated to match my dragon red. He even did it twice as he didn't think the colour matched well enough first time. I'm very impressed.

It does come with a thin mat that simply goes under the fixing plate so it won't disturb the paintwork. It's simplicity itself to put on and take off.

Well, I got mine today and installed it. I have mixed feelings about it. Looks and fit are good, but it sits kind of too high...rubs against the back of the seat. IMHO it should be a 1/4 inch lower in order not to pinch the seat. Oh, well, I might adjust it a bit by making the holes oval. I will report with results. Dan
