After reading all the posts, there definitely is a difference
in theft based on your location. London sounds like a
tough city for scooter theft. My exposure is less. Both
of my scoots (Vespa 300, Burgman 400) are garaged at
home. On extended multi-day rides in rural Minnesota and
Wisconsin, we just lock the front fork - never a problem.

If I parked overnight in downtown Minneapolis, I would
lock the scoot to a solid pole.

e. for me. For the most part, she's locked in the garage at night, and sitting right next to my building all day. Nothing special when I'm out doing errands...turn the key and lock the helmet and I'm off.

I AM in a pretty low-theft area. Not sure thieves around here even know what a Vespa is...I guess I'm 100x more likely to get it knocked over than stolen.

A. C. and D. Most places. Like Genie I have a permanent camera on my scoot when locked up at home.
London leading the way once again!

Option E for me. Although oddly enough, my scooter comes with an alarm system which I never use. Having a scooter no one in the US wants may help.

I park my Vespa overnight for a yearly fee in a public parking lot that is part of a large public park within a medium sized city limits. The lot is supposedly patrolled by park police and local police, but someone could cause damage to my scooter in a small amount of time.

I have multiple security measures to attempt to minimize the headache of a stolen or damaged scooter more than the financial loss.

I use the key security lock, as well as a grip lock. Thirdly I run a strong cable lock through the front wheel and the body loop. Finally I cover the whole hing under a boring gray cover intended for this purpose. It can blend in with typical Pacific NW skies.

This seems complicated but I can pull it off/on in under four minutes. After all I have a ferry to catch.

I am becoming concerned...
20 minutes ago I wrote an email to my neighbours to tell them that someone had gotten into our CRV on the weekend when we forgot to lock it and gone through everything. Sadly for them, Disney soundtracks and Leapfrog toys weren't on their shopping list. Since then, I have gotten replies that detailed a break-in on the weekend and gates mysteriously left open when they were previously shut.

My scooter is parked at the front of the house next to the car, with a cover and cable lock through the front wheel and around the body. Don't you think the cover makes it seem like something important enough to steal?

Maybe a disc lock too? I cannot get the scooter close enough to the house to tie it down. When I replace the landscaping, I will sink a metal loop into some concrete...
