Hello All,

2nd question of the day....

I have put the Rally clutch cable on. When I pull the lever in its hardly wanting to spring back. My 2 other scoots (which I haven't really taken apart) spring back into place quite strongly.

What does this mean? worn spring somewhere?

I can get under the bike and fairly comfortably pull the clutch mech with one finger.... although it is springing back as it should. Is this telling me something?

Thanks Kevin

Nobody?!!
OK Ive done the obvious which wasnt obvious 3 hours ago, and tried to 'finger' move the clutch arm (under the engine)

Very easy with one finger on the faulty Rally
Just about moveable with my hand on my working Sprint.

So I deduce the problem is clutch side of this arm.

The only picture I took before reassembly was below and I can only think that this spring is 'worn' or I havent put it back right...?

Any ideas anyone

Cheers Kevin

That looks right, but most of the resistance would come from the springs inside the clutch. You didn't leave out the little brass plunger, did you? Or maybe it fell out when you were assembling, inside under the cover. Does the clutch seem to work?

When you say it was easy to pull with a finger was that just the pre-load on the spring? had to be, because if you could pull through the springs in the basket that would be nearly impossible.. unless your springs were some crazy weak ones.. I doubt it..

I can fairly easily move the clutch arm with my fingers to pre-load that spring on the outside of the cover.. that's not uncommon... but if it's way way way way easy maybe that spring is indeed worn..as long as it pulls back and returns your lever to where it should be (at the headset) you're fine..

maker sure you haven't tightened the bolt and nut on the lever perch too tightly.. it should move freely.

I set my clutch so I have about 2mm of freeplay at the lever on the headset before I feel the clutch start to grab.

Vader/ Voodoo,

many thanks. After reading your suggestions I'm pretty sure what Im feeling is just the tension on that external clutch arm spring. ie I havent tensioned the cable to the point where it actually begins to press on the internal clutch springs(much stronger like you say)

Will give it a go. At least I have a way forward....

it all makes more sense once you do one (or break one).
