Oil - Rotella T6 from Walmart or Pepboys. Buy it by the gallon.

Filter - the Hi-Flo HF183 is just fine - order online.

Hub oil - you need very little (I forget the exact amount, but it's in the manuals) - a quart will last the life of the scoot.

You can probably find an equivalent online or in Pepboys say - as long as it meets the specs it'll be fine.

Hub oil: I use Lucas Synthetic 75W-90 I think (can't say for sure as I don't have the bottle in front of me). And to fill, again by memory, is something like a cup (250 mL). Stuff usually comes by the quart/liter so you will have enough for 3-4 changes.

Just called the local dealer and asking them if they have the items I need in stock.

Filter - in stock
O'ring for mesh Part # 285536

Hub Washer nut Part # 000397

They said there is no washer nut for the oil drain plug?

The engine oil drain plug has an oring, which at least on my scooters I have never replaced.

The hub oil copper crush washer is often not replaced (I do, but most do not).

My reasoning for not replacing the engine oil plug's oring, but I do replace the hub oil crush washer is twofold; First, I check the motor oil level more often, and the hub oil is replaced much less frequently. Second, the crush washer deforms when 'crushed', and it will not likely go back exactly as it was. YMMV.

2007 Vespa GTS250ie oil?
I'm still confused on which engine oil to use? I understand 5W40 synthetic, but which readily available brand. And all the letter stuff confuses me. I could spend all stay in the oil isle and still not be certain I'm buying the right stuff. Do anyone have any simple advice for a non technical person. I just want to ride, not read labels all day and still not be certain I'm using the right stuff.

Synthetic 5W-40.
Rotella is popular, I use Mobil 1 (the one for diesel engines).

Ride to Walmart. Go to the automotive section. Find shell Rotella T6 in a gallon jug. Purchase and ride home. Simples.

As others have said -

Shell Rotella T6 5w40 or Mobil 1 5w-40.

Oil for Vespa GTS250ie
Thanks guys, that makes it simple for me. Came home this morning with a quart of Castrol synthetic blend that had a JA rating among others, but think I will go with Mobil 1. O'Reilleys showed me the Shell product for Diesels, but I thought that diesel not the one! Thanks again and for the tip on where to get filters. Think I ordered a couple on ebay for about $8 each. I'm new at this. Just got my scooter a 2007 with 2011 miles from the original owner. Hasn't been ridden much lately.

The mobile 1 and Shell rotella pictured in Masala's post above are both marketed for diesel but also meet the specs for our scooters. If the guy at O'Reilleys showed you Shell Rotella T6 then that was correct even though it says diesel.

Wrong oil! Mobil 1 and Shell T6 are pure synthetic, not a blend.
Also the wrong weight. They don't show a 5W-40

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/CAS6/BLEND1040/N1876.oap?ck=Search_N1876_-1_2968&pt=N1876&ppt=C0368

Take it back.

Price at O'Reilly's $6.99/quart = $27.96/gallon

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/SHE4/SYN540QT/N1189.oap?ck=Search_N1189_-1_-1&pt=N1189&ppt=C0252

$11 less per gallon at Walmart with the rebate

Info on hub oil
What brand of Gearbox Oil do you use?

Also, for motor oil change you need 2 quarts. I think actual sump is 1.7 quarts more or less.

I just have a copper washer, it's not a "crush washer", it's a solid copper washer. If it starts leaking, get some emery cloth and smooth out any scratches that are causing it to leak.

Never ever bought one. I reuse the existing - it's not exactly under pressure or hugely torqued up..

Doing maintenance on my GTS. Inspecting the belt and so in and noticed that there is a small sponge filter. I cant seem to find any references on how to clean it. Do i clean it just like the air filter?

You might start a new thread with this question to get fresh eyes on it. That said, I removed mine completely, if you're referring to the foam element that goes over the inlet to the transmission case.

A highly respected Vespa mechanic once told me that those things only collect road dirt and grime that would otherwise be blown out the back, posing little threat to the belt itself. He also said that heat is the #1 enemy when it comes to early belt failures, and if that filter element gets plugged up so that no air can move through - you guessed it - heat buildup!

I've had mine out now for a couple years and several thousand miles with no (yet noticed) untoward side effects.

YMMV.

The reason you use Rotella is that it is a diesel oil and those are formulated to withstand high temps. Used to use this stuff for my boat as boat engine are running hard all the time.
