I live here and will keep my eyes open as well. I will post it on my scooter Meetup groups as well unless you belong to some and have done it already.

I'm so sorry my friend. I hate thieves. MV peeps can help. Remember the guy from Nevada who had his trailer and scooter stolen in CA yrs ago? The forum found his scooter. 8) Look near your home. When the other one was stolen it was found in the area it was stolen at. Might want to put it on scoot.net's stolen bike place as well. Good luck

Sorry to read about your loss. I know it's a bit late now, but 2-way remote alarms and GPS trackers are very affordable now. I got a Gorilla 2way alarm for about $160 and a GPS tracker for under $50 with 12V power adapter. The GPS tracker doesn't require monthly fees, just any GSM cell service with text messaging. I can ping my scooters to find out where they are, including the nearest street address, and they can automatically text me their location and a link to google maps if they move, go outside a particular zone, or go faster than a particular speed. The annual cell cost is $40 with H2O wireless prepaid (4-$10 activations, stacked for a year of service).
I have the GPS tracker wired separately from the alarm so that it won't get disabled if the alarm or battery is disabled, and it has its own backup battery. It's not foolproof, but it's an additional level of security that has a chance of catching the bad guys as a side benefit of aiding a quick recovery. If the scooter has no way of notifying you that someone is messing with it, then there's a much higher chance that it will be many hours or even days before you discover any damage or theft, long after there's much anyone can do anything about it. I also think it's unusual and unexpected to have GPS tracking on a scooter, which makes it more likely to be effective if the thieves aren't expecting it. |

Lojack is expensive to install on scooters and has a rather high monthly service fee. That's why I recommend GPS trackers, because they can cost under $50 to buy and install yourself, with only $40/year in regular pre-paid GSM cell phone service. Lojack can cost from $700-1,100 for installation, plus regular service/inspections of $100 every two years, after Lojack has been activated, after any collision, after any change to electrical accessories, after any battery/electrical problems or service, or if the internal battery gets weak. However, it does have a kind of insurance policy if your vehicle isn't recovered in 30 days or if it's recovered and declared as a total loss.
GPS has none of these extra costs, but you may need to replace the battery occassionally, and remember to keep the cell service active. So Lojack is about 20 times more expensive to install vs. GPS. I think GPS trackers are more suitable for the price range of scooters, and there are quite a few options available with different features for reasonable prices. The combination of a good motorcycle alarm with 2-way pager and GPS tracker was a better value for me. |

I don't really fault them, especially in California the stolen vehicles are usually stripped, and boxed up within a few hours of them being taken. Its unfortunate this happened to you. Hopefully your insurer comes through and you're made whole. |

I think it is taken and a tag job is done with some cheap salvage job sold on the Auction market. the insurance co should start removing VIN numbers before a sale...

VIN has to stay with the vehicle till it is destroyed at a salvage yard. The person trying to get rid of a totaled vehicle at a salvage yard can't without a VIN and Title, unless it's over 15 years old
