I have a 2003 ET4. It's my baby (yes, I'm one of those people). Anyway, last night coming home I was coasting to a red light, then as it turned green I throttled up and there was a mechanical bang sound, the engine stayed running (and raced when I twisted the throttle) but I was dead in the water. I haven't had a chance to open her up (I pushed her the 2 miles home... uphill) then had to go to work this morning. It's just weighing on my mind and thought this might be a good place to start figuring it out.

Unfortunately, there aren't any places close that can work on a Vespa, so I'm going to have to figure this out on my own.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like a failed drive belt.

Agree with Aviator. Open up the case and have a look. Post pictures if you can. Good luck

^^ What they said. Be sure to get all the fibers cleaned out of the variator and clutch before you slap it back together.

Thanks!
I was hoping it was something like that. I'll dig into it tonight and see what I can see.

Thanks! I knew this was the place to start.
