Just replaced the fuel tap and rubber gasket on my phone. Put in a bit of gas and checked for leaks, all good. Filled up the tank and now the tap is leaking at the contact point with the tank. Is there a gasket that I should be using? Other than the rubber gasket that. Came with the tap, there is no other.

Stupid auto correct on my tablet
I tightened it all the way down and the leak got worse, so I backed it off a bit. Seem to remember that I had the same problem with the first tap I installed. I can't remember how I solved it |

Just checking some obvious stuff. Did you put the gasket on the outside and not underneath the nut aye? It wont seal properly the other way. The tank hole is flat and round? No dents or nicks? When your installing it, the tap may have turned a bit as your tightening it up, distorting/elongating the gasket somewhat. It may not have shown if there wasnt much weight of gas on it. If this has happened the gasket maybe already be ruined, check to see if its out of round. You could try the old gasket in place of the new one if the old one worked ok. But then you probably wouldnt have replaced the tap. Not the best idea as its not a complete fix, but this would work. You could smear some hylomar blue onto the gasket before reinstalling it. |

So the rubber gasket goes on the outside of the tank? Not between the nut and the tank? That would be my problem if that is the case.

i put the gasket on the outside the first time as well...
i wondered why the scoot always smelled like gas. i also made the clamp over the tap disk too tight which made it hard to turn and eventually ripped the (4 hole) gasket... you live and you learn... thats why i love this place. |
