Hi guys,

My luck continues, got a puncture on the front of the gtv. Need to replace the tyre, typical MOT next week.

Any how, looking for a grippy front tyre not fussed about longevity, on here the city grip seems to get the plaudits for ware but a lot of comments about it being slippy. Not interested in slippy.

any thoughts? Must be able to get it in the UK.

Cheers

Michelin City Grip - 5,000km review

Mine only slips slightly cornering on wet man-hole covers, no surprise there.

Incidentally I got a punture repaired by a mushroom-shaped plug fitted from the inside (call-out service, £30). Has been fine for the last 2k km

I get barely noticeable slip on my City Grips. They're an awesome tyre, at least compared to the crap Sava Monson's I had on there previously.

Repair it yourself with a 'sticky string' kit, as long as it's plenty of wear left. Not a problem with the MOT. Cost - less than £10, e.g.:

New tyre came yesterday, Phoned Glasgow Lambretta alas they won't touch it. Apparently their rigs are set up for thier own rims and tyre compunds. The only place in glasgow I have found is Victor Devine, the honda dealer. They will change it as long as the wheel is off the bike. Lucky its the front!

They never mentioned cost though.

I have a few other places to phone will update.

When I took my rear wheel in for a new tyre I paid £40 all in I think, it a michilin but not sure of the exact one it is.

Please do update on how much you pay to have your own tyre fitted as it'll be good to know what it costs

Ask if they can balance it.

the reckoning in this part of the world is "its a scooter won't need balancing"

As long as they replace the valve jobs a good un, I was thinking about getting some of the "ride on" stuff for it.

any one here tried it?

If, and only if, you can sense there's some imbalance, then Ultraseal or Slime help quite a lot. They won't cure a serious imbalance, and are expensive to use every tyre change as they add £10 to the cost every time. Also, tyre-fitters don't like cleaning it out, even though the above two are water based and clean really easily.

If you're going to be riding for years and no-one locally will balance tyres then buy a Marc Parnes static balancer and DIY.

I sympathise with the faff of getting a fitter - same here when I had to switch good tyres onto newly powder coated rims on my GTS.

I'm no expert but a lot of tyre dealers hear 'moped' when you say scooter tyre and think there's no balancing needed on a 40mph bike. Which is probably right, but a bit different on a GTS 300 at 80mph. So when I've had tyres fitted and balanced, they've always needed some small weights rather than none at all. A good fitter will ask about your speed or tyre rating, but not all will. Just mentioning...

I must be really lucky. There is a guy near here who used to be a mobile mc tyre man. Now static with all the gear In his garage. I buy tyres from Openeo and he fits and balances (with a new valve) for a fiver!!!! I just take the wheel to him. Last time he disposed if the old rubber as well.

Do the 125 tires even need to be balanced? They don't do mine. I used ride on and liked it. Doesn't make a mess when you change out the tires like slime etc. I don't use it now because i have a Tire Pressure System on the tires and it will give false readings. So the manual says. Good lucky

I use Pirelli Diablo tires on my GT200 been very impressed. Seemed odd that they were the same make and type as the ones on my Ducati, just a tad smaller
