After an absence of 10 years I finally got my old Rally 200 back on the road and ready to join with friends for the Mersea Island Scooter Rally 2012. The old girl (the scooter that is) has been with me for 27 years and unfortunately had to take a back seat to raising a family. Now making up for lost time!
My 1974 Rally 200 in Velvet Red; my cousin's 1975 Rally 200 in Burnt Orange and his wife's Rally 180 in factory colours.

If I was in the market for a good Rally 200 now it would probably be out of my price range mate. Original UK bikes are as rare as rocking horse poo and I'm just pleased to have kept hold of one. Like most enthusiasts I've had my share of desirable scoots over the years, many of which were let go for little more than beer money.

I've owned three Rallys in my time although this particular one was my first, bought from a friend for £300 in 1987. Most of the cosmetic work was completed by myself in the early 90's including the paint which was originally factory orange. I've managed to keep the old girl looking tidy and putting aside a couple of engine rebuilds and a full engine replacement in 2010 the scoot owes me nothing.

Thanks for all the positive comments, it's good to know you're amongst friends. I look forward to catching up with you all on the road and at events across the UK.

Also top marks to the fella who picked up on Madness reference!

One of my all time favourite bands-Used to sneak into the Hope and Anchor on Upper Street to see them in the old days-Prefer their stuff up to and including Absolutely. Funny enough I only liked the Specials up until Ghost Town maybe I'm stuck in a time warp.

I'm with you there mate although I could squeeze in a couple of tracks from 7. I saw Madness play the Rainbow Theatre back in the day, I wasn't more than 14 and made a point of getting to the front. All hell broke loose when the curtain went up and I found myself bang in the middle of a load of moshing skinheads! I agree on the Specials, first album an absolute classic. Didn't care much for Ghost Town when it came out and still gets too much airplay. Went to see The Specials on the reunion tour at Brixton Academy, thought they done a superb set although most of the crowd were bolloxed three songs in!

I like them all

I'd like to see how the middle Rally looks with the white trims etc. I very nearly did this to mine too.
