The few things I have been tinkering with on my 50s has got me kinda interested in getting a project bike. I have had to do most things twice, and the second time has usually taken 10% of the time it took to do it the first time

I have discovered a fondness for taking something apart and cleaning it up. The hardest part has been putting it back together.....sometimes it ended up worse than when I started, but more and more my tinkering has made it better.

I'm wondering what is a good model to use. I would guess an older PX, but I like the pre PX models better. I could go for another smallie, but kinda like the idea of a largframe.

We get the odd sportique here, as well as a few supers and sprints. Looking at vespalounge, the sprint would be better?

Ideally, reasonable access to parts, and ease of working on it would be nice

Does not need to be a daily rider

Customise or restore?
You end up putting so much effort into the project that by the time you finish the scoot youre sick of the sight of them. If you dont already really like the model to start with, it does nothing to improve the mood for you if all you have is a shiny px for example, when the same effort could have you a shiney sporty.

(Controversial statement to follow)
Also, repro parts prices between models arent all that much different unless youre trying to find NOS or have some weird ass model nobody makes bits for. In many instances, you end up buying almost the same amount of parts to restore them regardless of model, so theres not alot between the cost of parts even though the initial outlay may differ.

Just go for a model you actually like. Itll be so much more enjoyable for you once its done.

Get something as complete as you can - sourcing missing core parts is a pain, or costly.
